I adamantly believe that in the case if this pandemic that all the animal tests as well as rushed human trial by error experimentation would probably not have even been necessary in the first place if these scientists weren''t out there taking liberties they have no right to in order to gain notoriety or wealth by developing dangerous potions. Whether intentionally or inadvertantly, the end result doesn't care. But about animals, I don't feel the exact same affection for all animals. I favor dogs over cats so in my case I agree that dogs are man's best friend. However, I do feel equal disgust at torturing any of them whether it be 2 legged, 4 legged, winged, scaled, or otherwise crawling on it's belly, such as the cruel dusgusting acts inflicted on thise Beagle puppies by one god-like Fudpucker Fauci who shows no remorse, no conscience, no concern, no humanity for God's sake for the suffering the animals must endure until their death frees them from this maniacal monster. Can you imagine their suffering at his hands? And we arrogantly dare claim man to be progressed, evolved, when he's not yet even civilized? I can barely tolerate even discussing it to be honest. I grew up eating the meat we raised on the smallest of farms, if you could even call it that. I became attached to the animals easily and it was hidden from me as long as possible that they wound up on my dinner plate. I remember the day when my dad announced we'd be getting our meats from the grocery store and that was that. Although not 100% vegetarian, as I get older I often find meat less and less desirable and really enjoy vegetables and fruit. I think the Garden of Eden held no meat for a good reason. Not long ago I came across a video on KZbin of some poor monkeys being used in scientific experiments and couldn't turn it off fast enough and just the couple of seconds if seeing the fear and pain in their faces made me sick and tortured for days. It's too horrendous to realjze man uses his God-given gift of dominion over animals in these vile practices! And we are supposed to be the civilized species? It was enough to torture my mind and made me heart and soul sick for days. Watching The Green Mile completely took me by surprise concerning mice. I hate bugs and will kill one as quickly and humanely as possible. How a person could intentionally set out to torture ANY living thing is to me the most heinous and sickening act and the person doing it may perceive themselves powerful or excuse the act as somerhing necessary to help others, but it is pure cowardice or false ego in the spotlight. A dog has the ability to learn and understand a vocabulary equal to a 3 or 4 yr old child not to mention their ability to feel and express love and loyalty to people and other animals but these traits aren''t limited to dogs only. Look up the video about the crow that saved the cat and became friends that rolled on the ground together, shared food. There have been many surprisingly beautiful stories of animals you wouldn't normally think capable of the things they show us. If there was a famine on earth and I had to hunt for food for my family, I would. But I wouldn't torture it not even if it meant I couldn't eat. My mental health is as important as my physical health. People pride themsekves on being mentally tough enough to perform these acts but I see it as a weakness attrributable to enormous ego instead. There is no excuse for cruelty to these animals in the name of science, medically or otherwise. God gave us dominion over them and there was even a time of blood sacrifice before Jesus became the Lamb to end all that but there was no sanction of torture. No person who is humane could possibly close their eyes and sleep while a living animal they left in some God forbidden scientific experiment gets it's face slowly eaten off by a swarm of insects. Why in Hell would you ever trust a person who is capable of that to deliver you reliable info concerning your own well- being? Do so if you want to but I could never trust that person..

Perhaps, so long as people understand the basic definition of gain of function - crossing between two species does not add to a virus' "function." A virus' modus operandi and "function" is to replicate as efficiently as possible, which crossing species' barriers does not do. Nor was virulence improved at all in the Wuhan Lab, assuming that's where it came from. As Dr. Francis Collins mentioned, there is no evidence based on the genetic evidence that this virus was bioengineered in any way, shape or form. Whether any additional research was being done obviously did not result in a "gain of function."

it may be - it depends on how much more transmissable it is (how easily it spreads). If it spreads much quicker than delta, then even though it is generally more mild still it might result in more people in hospital overall. We gotta keep an eye on it. But - the milder thing is very good news I think for the longer term.

Preliminary data shows higher rates of re-infection with Omicron for naturally acquired immunity, however, so far, data seems to show milder symptoms. However, keep in mind this initial data is from south Africa, and tend to be younger patients. Data with older patients not yet known.

They did talk about herd immunity in the beginning because you can reach herd immunity if you vaccinate about 90% of the world. We're no longer talking about it because there's a significant portion of the population that either won't take it or doesn't have access to it. The other way to get herd immunity is to let the disease ravage enough people til it dies out, but we're not keen on sacrificing ourselves. So that's not an option.

And you're right about us reaching some semblance of herd immunity that way. There will be new variants all the time I think. Because the best scientific hypothesis says this is COVID SARS2 jumped to animals, and then back to humans again. If that is the case, we are gonna have this little Corona virus around forever, and it will be just like a cold or flu... mostly.

I think many of those protein spikes on the new Omicron Variant may not be viable, as the virus may have have attached itself to less insidious virus(es)which deminishes its potency/capacity and abilities to attach to our receptors/agents successfully. It's like they are mimics of the other protein spikes. Therefore not fully developed & less potent. Its like dummy warheads. That Said, if those spikes mutate again one of two things may happen. 1. It may be a devastatingly efficient binding agent or 2. may neutralize itself before it has the opportunity to entice immune response. Therefore could be overwhelmed and killed by our natural immunity. It may become like a common cold which is good news. Don't trust me. I haven't done this in the lab in over 35 years, but that seem to be the general protocol in mutuations of animal virus. Noting that humans have complex immune system but these other transfer viruses succeed because our defenses simply overracts sometimes. #TARTV #Tarmed

I agree. I looked at the PLOS papers on the epitope maps of the omicron. There appears to be about a 40% “mask” in the variant of epitopes that the Pfizer etc vaccines have a potential polyclonal response to. However, further down the map, the S subunits in the omicron are fragile in the structural integrity of the protein. So, it is still uncertain, especially with all the weird glycosylations coating the virus. But, we need to wait on the data - I am quietly optimistic that this is still an epidemic of the unvaccinated.
