I'm just glad that I had a chance to see (AHEM!) vs. (COUGH!) again. That has always been one of my favorite episodes, and was chock full of some great riffing. It's in my top 10 episodes of all time list. It's a real shame Toho is so testy about it. It's not like anyone anywhere on the planet is EVER going to watch Godzilla vs. Megalon outside of the MST version.

I met The Mads at a Con in 2017, where I dressed up as Joel and brought my replicas of Tom Servo and Crow for them to sign Trace of course, signed Crow. He was so impressed with my build and that I made Crow with Legs (something that almost nobody had ever done before) and built a cool custom base inspired by the walls of the SOL Bridge. Trace called me a “Master Bot Builder” because of my Crow build. Which is quite the honor, coming from Crow T. Robot himself. And Frank autographed Servo because of this sketch. He told me that not many people remember that he voiced Servo here.

What's funny is that these companies don't understand how much better off they are to let these guys use their stuff. MSTies watch them over and over and over again. People who are not MSTies never watch them. Period.

The Japanese companies don't get it. They have no sense of humor and also don't realize they probably sell more copies of these films on DVD and Blu ray because of the riffing, not in spite of it!!! The same thing's true for movies that are essentially clip shows (It Came From Hollywood, Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid). Those films have to be renegotiated to use film clips from movies owned by various studios just like old TV shows have to have their music rights renegotiated and cleared before home video releases. The rights holders end up wanting too much money half the time that makes it not worth it to bother with home video releases or fans end up getting castrated versions of TV shows with elevator music instead of the music they were used to from the original broadcast! If they would think but they don't!

Toho is hyper protective of Godzilla. '98 being such a dud didn't help matters in the slightest. The whole reason they even started making Godzilla movies again is because they didn't want the Matthew Broederick movie being the final word on the matter, after they had effectively retired their version of the character in '95.

You wouldn't believe how much money people are asking for, for Rhino MST3K Vol. 10's with Godzilla vs Megalon included. Those things became overnight high priced collectors items as soon as they were discontinued. I felt so fortunate to have gotten ahold of a copy before the copyright hell storm and subsequent cancellation happened. I'm hopeful that SHOUT! will be able to somehow release not only Godzilla vs Megalon again, but Godzilla vs The Sea Monster as well.

This was nearly a full 20 years after the series premiered on KTMA in 1988. They should bring back the series with Season 11, taking place in the not-too-distant-future year of 2015. This was in 2008, and they did fine. Nothing should be stopping them!
