Moderated by Dr. Jacques Dion, VP of Scientific Affairs at MicroVention, Dr. Christoph Griessenauer, Geisinger Health System, presents his 2019 publication- Comparison of Pipeline Embolization Device and Flow Re-Direction Endoluminal Device Flow Diverters for Internal Carotid Artery Anuerysms: A Propensity Score-Matched Cohort Study.
“During my fellowship and the time after,” Dr. Griessenauer explains, “the only device approved for the majority of that time was the Pipeline device. So we did this research in a totally unbiased way… [and because of that] when the FRED device was approved earlier this year, I was very keen on using it. Knowing the data we had produced from our own research reassured me that this device was going to work well.”
In this short video, Dr. Griessenauer outlines the methodology used to create this apples-to-apples comparison study and discusses the strikingly similar effectiveness and safety outcomes of the device cohorts. Both the FRED and Pipeline devices were found to have equally favorable safety profiles.
