Dr. Khan needs to elaborate on the presence of Syed Salahuddin at the funeral of Bashir Ahmad Peer in Rawalpindi. Syed Salahuddin is the chairman of United Jehad Council based in Muzaffarabad. Syed Salahuddin originally Mohammad Yousuf Shah from District Badgam in Jammu & Kashmir, whereas, Bashir Ahmad Peer was basically from Kupwara in Jammu & Kashmir. Both are from Hizbul Mujahideen. I think Dr. Jaishankar is saying publicly something that many of us Indian-Americans have been saying quietly for years: South Asia is purely a geographic concept, not a cultural, civilizational, or economic concept. The great democracies of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and India has absolutely nothing in common with Pakistan, and today's young Indians (I am in my fifties, with parental memories of undivided India) of all religions do not think of Pakistan at all.

Mr. Cheema, Dr. Jaishankar never said Pakistan is not relevant. He said that India is not relevant to Pakistan's current status and its unraveling. It means very different. What it means is that there's no way India can do anything or contribute in any meaningful way to support Pakistan. It also means, forget India. India is leaving Pakistan to its own destiny.
