GMA3's Dr. Jennifer Ashton weighs in on the Alabama court ruling that embryos are children and discusses the impact it has had on IVF treatments: "We need to stick with the science... What's referred to as a child, a fetus, an embryo in the lay public actually is inaccurate and incorrect when you talk about medicine."

When a Dr. tells you that you have a cold or a broken leg or cancer 99.999% of people believe them, but the second this question is raised, now that same Dr. is wrong because their MEDICALLY-BASED opinion isn't what the bible-thumper doesn't want to hear. @akwumba1 Because its still trauma to their body, mind, and for some their soul? How is this even a question?.Having a child is more than just giving birth and going throughr pregnancy, its also expectation, preparation and commitment during the pregnancy and AFTER the birth. Which is what this doctor was explaining. Each woman at each step and stage may be experiencing a totally different reality, and mentality and that's THEIR struggle. But you cannot blanket it. You also cannot blanket the unique physical traumas of a miscarriage. Intentionally being obtuse in such a clear, important, and traumatic medical situation is not only pathetic and embarrassing...it actually completely invalidates the ridiculous point you're trying to sarcastically make.

@@unbothered5240 why are you mentioning child? You said it's not one. Sounds like you want to say what is in her body is a child but refuse to recognize it as such. If it's just a clump of cells this doesn't require your mind body and soul as you mentioned. If an abortion and a miscarriage are so bad and so traumatic that means what they are carrying is indeed a human. You can't claim it's a big deal but then claim it's just a clump cells or medical situation. If someone kills a 2 month pregnant mother on her way to an abortion clinic a double murder? Having spent 100K+ on 5 IVFs, it is cells that are transferred NOT embryos - they transfer 200+ cells hoping that 1 or 2 will become embryos and attach to the uterus wall and grow with proper medical nourishment into fetus and after 14 weeks woman knows for sure that she is pregnant and carrying a child even though she is told that IVF is successful and she is pregnant in 2 weeks as cells are not rejected after the procedure - As Dr. Jen tried to explain and if Sunny allowed not to inject her beliefs, it is multi-step process and not a life form unless Alabama residents are trying to treat man's serum as God-like and not be wasted

It's a complete farce. Yet pro-lifers keep citing this paper like it's the truth without even knowing how bad the survey was conducted and how loaded the question was. This study was based on an improper survey method and does not carry any statistical or scientific weight. The dr explained very well scientific terminology is different than the lay person for a reason. IVF only happen because of the advance in science so give the scientist the decision how to regulate the process

It's so stunning, as educated as Sunny is, how she digs her heels in on the pro-life issue, she's a lawyer/litigator and she has such massive blinders on in this issue, thankfulky this doc can at least have her concede to reason and not preach from the bible regarding LEGISLATIVE issues, crazy, thankful for this balanced, nuanced segment

@sweetsarah27 you miss the point. Sonny speaks like sje knows and she has zero clue because of her religious bias. She's an absolute vile person when it comes to life. She adds to the pain and suffering surrounding women's rights in this country

I do understand Sunny, because at the end of the day if this embryo goes through the entire process, it does become a child 🤷🏼‍♀️ that’s why she reacts that way. ❤
@MarieRu-e5l
@MarieRu-e5l 7 ай бұрын
That is a huge "if," though. And since these blobs of cells are discarded, or can be discarded, BEFORE the entire process, no one should be giving them personhood or saying that they're a child.

She's entitled to have whatever feelings she has about an embryo. But that's where it ends. No one, and certainly no government, should be interfering in what should be a woman's right to bodily autonomy. BTW, I think Sunny is being disingenuous, as she frequently invokes her faith, but has gone through IVF herself. The Catholic Church does not condone it at all.

@@MarieRu-e5lI get it’s just a woman thing, just knowing that it can become a child, that’s all it is. Everything else is logical as well…the if’s are hard though, we humans are stubborn. Have a good day!!
