This lecture, as well as many others by the good Doctor, are the quintessential arguments against why sola scriptura is a grave error. We have lost so much through translation that our Tradition has retained for us even if we don't immediately recognize it. All of this was contained in the liturgical calendar of the Church before it was radically altered about 60 years ago. If we really want to get back to the early Church, we need go no further back than that.

One would suppose it was Adam who named the sun and moon. Therefore, at this point, they were only big and small light. In any case it is a sign of the antiquity of Genesis, that whenever it was written (this first chapters at least), there was no name for sun and moon. This was written by God Himself, given to Adam, preserved by his seed, and compiled by Moses.
