I don't know what is happening in your life but I do know that life sometimes is hard, circumstances can feel overwhelming, like you are drowning but you are still close enough to the surface to see the light. Do not grow quiet in your spirit, go to Him, cry out to Him, He offers His resources (Himself) to you, He does not need you cleaned up first: "him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." Jonah 2:8 They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. Jonah was a backslid preacher, thrown overboard, swallowed by a large fish,,,,, nobody knows where he is (he doesn't know where he is) only God knows . He still had faith in God "yet I will look toward thy holy temple" . Have faith in God

What I find curious, among many things, is that if God is omniscient, he must have foreseen what would happen to Nineveh 150 years after Jonah. So his mercy on the people didn't really amount to much because they still reverted to their degenerate and wicked ways. One could claim that they had their "free will", but what place has it in the face of His omniscience? One possible answer here is that notwithstanding His omniscience, it was simply in the character of God to show mercy, regardless of the outcome. And who knows what role the repentant ones would play in the ongoing process of history.
