Sad irony that he died younger than his father when he died. He wanted to live a longer life than his dad. Wasn't to be.

It's so shocking that he is not around any more. He knew the human body and fitness and health so well. When I first heard about what happened to him all I could wonder was what was he thinking, given he knew his limits so well. It's very puzzling and terribly sad for all who loved him. ❤

Just a tragic accident - conditions were against him and it probably only took a few minutes of extra exertion in the heat that made it impossible for him to go any further- it’s hard to believe he is gone - rest in peace Michael

No doubt he knew the body's limits. The mistake he made was making a decision to traverse a route he didn't know well and to not have any navigation equipment. No compass, no maps, no mobile phone, no GPS. He would have made the journey successfully if he had such aids. An accident? An accident as the result of poor decisions.

This could have happened to anyone…sadly, he took the wrong direction and ended up somewhere else😢... It’s just a very tragic situation. He may have left his phone because he knew he was going for a swim, and may have thought it wasn’t worth taking it with him. Besides the phone may not work, due to poor or no reception on the mountains…

My deepest condolences to the family on a truly tragic event and loss of a great man. The only suspicious things here are why on earth was he allowed to go into such heat on his own? Up there on those rocks, the heat would’ve been amplified to even up to 20° more. The man literally roasted and he was not seconds from safety at all. Do you think if he crossed the fence he would not have died? Do you think a glass of water would’ve fixed him in that advanced state of dehydration and heat exhaustion? What killed him was his sense of Trust me I’m a doctor, I’m not being nasty. I’m just telling you that no one is stronger than Nature and we must take a lesson from this. It is with good reason we here in Greece and in southern Europe do not go out in the midday sun and instead we stay indoors, eat a good meal and sleep, only to go out afterwards when the sun is not strong. Again, my deepest condolences to the family.

I live on Rhodes (from the UK) and that day he went missing, it was 38 degrees C here and Symi is extremely rocky. I worked outside in Darwin where temperatures often get to 36C. Dr Moseley may have been feeling unwell because he was dehydrated. When people are dehydrated they aren’t making the best decisions. Going for a walk in a cooler climate makes sense, but in a hotter climate sitting in the shade under a tree makes more sense. In Darwin we were given half an hour for lunch, whereas in Athens the shops closed between 12 noon and 2pm. It’s the difference in culture.

A tragedy, that such a dedicated supporter of living longer healthier lives and helping so many people to do so should die prematurely like this. Its very hard to understand why he would go walking in that heat. I've been in Greece for almost all of July, and my friends there tell me temperatures have been extraordinary since May, with 40° throughout June, certainly in July too. This is much too hot to attempt any activity in the middle of the day - heatstroke overcomes you very rapidly - by the time you are aware of any symptoms you are unlikely to survive without immediate medical attention. This is so terribly sad. He really was one of the good guys and will be missed so much
