Natalie Ferguson, PhD, DNP, MSN, FNP, MSA, APRN, met with Urban Health Today to offer advice for health care providers on how to become a better ally to help combat health care disparities. Factors such as improved communication, education, and advocacy can help improve outcomes not only for individual patients but also for entire communities.
Dr. Ferguson is the assistant director of nursing and a community outreach advocate, educator, and support liaison in the Department of Medicine, Hematology/Oncology Cancer Care Services, at the SUNY Downstate Medical Center and the chief executive officer and founder of the Ferguson Wellness Institute Inc., a nonprofit organization that cares for all individuals’ minds, bodies, and spirits.
