romans 8:13 For If you live according to the flesh you will die, We all die. so this verse confused me. Thanks for clarifying that the context implys corruption and destruction to ones life. The downward spiral that living according to the flesh brings is quite evident and understandable to me.

While I think that we should always remember that we cannot be saved by good works don't forget that we cannot be saved without good works. Christ having paid our debt on the cross does not mean that we can live in sin all our lives and automatically be saved by Christ's righteousness and go to heaven with A defective character made so by A life of sin.

How many good works do we have to do to prove our salvation then? I'd like to know the number so I can work hard to make sure.

Darr Sigilman sorry but good works doesn't ensure salvation. Eph. 2:8,9. For by grace are ye saved through FAITH, and not of yourselves; it is the gift of God: NOT of works lest any man should boast. Our best righteousness is like filthy rags in his sight. We are to work for him but works doesn't get is into heaven. Accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior is the only way!!

So, what does it mean when Lord Jesus stated that He (COULD) blot out names out of the Book of Life?. I'm not promoting the concept of earning our salvation at all. Nevertheless, this and many other Scriptures seem to open up the possibility of losing our righteous standing if we persist in disobedience and lack of repentance. Either we take Scripture at face value, or we interpret it through our preconceived systematic theological grid. I wish OSAS WAS bullet proof. After reading the whole Bible with an open mind, I can't help but conclude otherwise. I wish it were true though. I really do. It would be allot less concerning for believers. Scripture does teach that we are saved by God's grace through faith, and that it is not of works. At the same time Apostle Paul declares that the unrighteous (fornicators, adulterers, homosexuals, liars, thrives, idolaters, etc will not inherit the Kingdom.These epistles were written to believers. Revelation states they will have their part in the Lake of fire.. So, it appears that works have consequences according to the Bible..What about useless branches being cut off, wicked servants being cast with unbelievers? Careless virgins being shut out from the bridegroom? Conditional security seems apparent.There are so many passages, they seem to be innumerable. I fully embrace that we are forgiven through the shed blood, death, and resurrection of Christ alone as we trust in Him. Other than that issue,, good sermon because it is expository in nature. I'Ive always loved listening to Moody programs.
