@@themachine9366 most crazy people running around with machetes likewise won't voluntarily use a social worker, which is why it's a good parallel. I really don't think forcibly taking crazies into custody and forcing them into rehab or whatever with social workers fixes the problem any more than paying for personal trainers will, but at least there's some authority behind it. We already have social workers, just like we already have fitness influencers, but it's up to individuals to use the information available in both cases, which they're not doing. I'm not saying it would work, I'm actually specifically arguing that it won't, just like the BLM recommendation of defunding police won't work.

Before they could even gut the unit to convert it for the police department the number of break ins dropped nearly 80%. By the time they actually staffed it the number of robberies had dropped off almost completely. I once saw a video involving police body-worn camera footage from a domestic (AJW might have even done a vid on it, but I don't recall): two cops showed up at a home (in Queens, I believe) to help a woman grab her and her children's things, while the latter were away at school, so that they could flee to a safer location before the husband returned. For the first few minutes everything was calm and mellow as the officers escorted her and watched the home as she gathered her stuff (both parties involved being cordial and respectful to one another)-- then you see the shadow of a figure walking along the side of the house and the woman screams "oh my God, he's here!". The situation flips from complete calm to complete and utter chaos on a dime as the husband walks through the door and *immediately* begins firing into the home, at both officers and his wife. Luckily, the wife managed to run out the back of the room, and the officers eventually managed to take the guy down-- but not before they both sustained serious (but not fatal) injuries; in the footage, you can see one of them is bleeding out on the floor as he valiantly continues to fire in the direction of the perp. So, anytime one of these "de-fund the police" BLM types claims that what we *askshually* need is social workers and "community policing" to deal with "non violent" situations like domestic calls and such-- I immediately recall that scene. Yea, some overweight and overworked middle-aged social worker would have totally been effective in "de-escalating" that situation...sure.

Some of them (maybe a lot of them) are just malicious and/or selfish, and simply want to shift the power dynamics of society so as to favorably position *themselves* , regardless of who or what is destroyed in the process; but it also seems that a lot of these people (especially the younger and more idealistic ones) genuinely believe that crime just wouldn't be a major issue if not for the Police/Law Enforcement and other such "systemic structures" which (they believe) exist solely to oppress and marginalize anyone who isn't a "cis" white heterosexual male. It's this almost Rousseauian view of Man and society-- born out of the extreme privilege (as in *actual* privilege) of growing up in a Western developed nation, thus with a level of material wealth and comfort that would be unfathomable to most human beings throughout most of human history-- wherein they believe that it's society itself which corrupts Man and leads him to violence and crime. They don't seem to acknowledge the fact that *any* human society will unfortunately always have certain people who *choose* to violate our laws and rules-- in both the legal *and* moral sense; that there will always be those who choose to prey on others, and those who will act without regard for the rights or the humanity of those around them-- whether in service to their own self-interest, because they're insane, or simply because they can...because they enjoy it. It's the function of our legal system to deal with such people promptly-- to provide penalties which disincentivize such behavior as best we can, to provide retribution on behalf of those whose rights they violated, and to remove such people from society (permanently if need be) so that the rest of us can exist safely and secure of our persons and property. Without these measures and systems in place we have chaos; a chaos which-- for all their talk of standing up for the marginalized-- will disproportionately impact the weak and vulnerable-- those who can't defend themselves. But I guess chaos is also part of the goal.

They just show, they don't have empathy. They are selfish. They are miserabel losers who can't play by the rules, so they need to be professional victims and activists. It's just awful how they are everywhere now. Here in germany, woke activists and their supporters are around 7% of our population. But they controll at least 80% of mainstream media. They achived huge changes, even genderneutral german language. Atm most of TV is genderneutral, and around 1/3 of germans use it, especially at their workplace. Keep in mind, just 70% support it. 80% of the people using it, say, they do it to not get punished and fired. They destroyed nuclear power. 10 years of development lost. Billions wasted. Now we have coal. The next hope is fusion. But the crazy activists usually don't care about reality, but about fear. So as soon as they hear, you get radioactive stuff, that's dangerous for around 100 years, they probably will protest. 100 years isn't a huge deal, it's totally different to the 100k of years we need for the stuff from our power plants today. And even that is better than coal, because you have radioactive stuff in earth's crust. In coal, too. If you burn it, you get ash. And the concentration of radioactive material is high. Not like from nuclear power, but you have far more. The sad reality is, because of that we have nuclear wastelands. 1 mile away the radiation still is 1.000 to 2.000 times above what would be allowed. And the air, wind, carries it around. And nobody speaks about that, because it looks bad, and activists don't care. But yes, if you have coal + radioactive material, and you burn the coal, you get radioactive material. So surprising. And that's their mentality. It isn't about solving problems, especially solving other's problems. Even if it's crime, even if it's rape. They don't care about radioactive wastelands, and there isn't a option to deal with that amount of radioactive material. No repository possible for thousands of tons. A single power plant can burn up to 7 million tons of coal each year. So imagine the radioactive hell we get here in germany. It's far away from cities, but wind can carry that hundreds of miles. You have a noticable increase of cancer in the accected areas, especially breast cancer and organs for reproduction. But they don't care, until it happens to them. And a lot of the stuff they do is ridiculous, and their meltdowns usually are pure comedy gold. And imo all if that helps to unite western societies across borders against this awful people. But what they do highly affects a lot of lifes in a negative way. It's something that really needs solutions. And forces to enforce the law. Because in the end, police has to deal with the climate activists and activists, protesting against nuclear power, aswell. A lot of climate activists are woke, are feminists, support BLM. It's all a group, and they know the policemen are the people who prevent them to force their crazy opinions on others. And it's bad enough, but all the defunding the police stuff could lead to far more influence for the woke lunatics, in every place where they cause problems...

Ppl should be very concious as to how ppl end up on the streets because in "almost" every case they will tell you themselves that it was their own fault through major mistakes. Jail is often the best place for them. Imho what really needs reformed is the prison system itself. I have theories on how to do that but id be here for days explaining it and in a world where the socialists and crony capitalists (same) are trying to squeeze the middle class/income into oblivian anything that takes time to explain is considered all sorts of negative things because the psychological programs being ran are dependent on short attention spans in the matrix.

It is impossible to just hire more police, they must come from somewhere. Also I has been almost shocked how short police education is in the USA, here in Sweden it is two and a half year and it used to be longer. You cannot recruit enough quality people by paying to little, insist on diversity hiring and scaring them with the threat that they may end up in prison for doing their job. The outcome of the George Floyd case didn't really help with police recruitment problems and probably cause many to quit the service.

GETTING BAD PEOPLE OFF THE STREET SOLVES A LOT!

I absolutely agree with your take when it comes to addressing root causes versus symptoms. In some cases, sure, you address the root cause first, but generally, with a LOT of things, you have to first get the symptoms under control. This played out very clearly in my life. I was a drug addict, and at the time I was here in Florida (at another point I lived in Newburgh, NY), and my mom went to a judge and got me put under a Marchman Act (something we have here that I think the whole country should probably have), which is basically involuntary commitment for addicts. Some cops came and ambushed me and took me to a detox center, and from there I went to rehab. And for the record, I HATED it, it was torture (of course, withdrawal from opioids isn't a fun time) and I absolutely reviled me mother for doing that to me. Buuuuuut, obviously, later I was extremely grateful to her for doing it, because it helped. JUST the barrier of being in the rehab and unable to get to drugs was enough with a long enough time separated from the drugs, I got my health and sanity back in those three months. And under a Marchman Act, if you leave the rehab, a (bench) warrant is issued for you, you go to jail for a couple months, then you go right back to the rehab. There's zero point in trying to run away, may as well finish it the first time. So, that threat of jail was enough to scare me to stay, and the barrier between me and the problem was enough to help me, EVEN without real therapy or really any addressing of the root causes. And yeah, with addiction, the root causes are very important to the treatment, BUT FIRST, you *have to* get the person detoxed and in their right mind. Therapy would be utterly useless to someone who can't stop using without being in physical agony, there's no point. So, you have to go after the symptom first. Crime is the same, in my opinion.

Hey Sean, I did a bunch of research on the issue of making social work part of/replacement for police. While social workers have been pushing for this for like a century, I also found that social workers are pushing for punishment enhancements for attacks on social workers, and even found an article a social worker wrote for a social work journal advising her readers to remove items from their social work offices that could be used as weapons (heavy items that could be held in one hand, sharp letter openers, etc. I have an article on American Thinker Dec 21, 2021. Link to follow (in case comments with links are still disappearing to wear the single socks go)...

I did some research in grad school regarding the likelihood, by percentage, that officers are accused of using excess force (or allegations of unjustified lethal force). First, I decided this study would be best if I compiled two separate datasets, then compared the two for correlation. I used the wonderful, yet complicated, functions and algorithms available through Six Sigma software, as I approached this with the hopes of examining “flaws” in the system (number of policy/law violations per arrest/report). I compiled every major metropolitan area in the continental United States, plus other major cities. I believe the cutoff was 250,000, but I can’t be sure. I first compared the number of officers per jurisdiction to the number of violent crimes reported annually, and put together a timeline for each one. This would give me a starting point to see if the number of officers has any correlation to violent crime rates, and/or any correlation to the number of allegations of police brutality. Then, I put together a separate study ranking each city above by violent crime rate, per capita. After digging, checking, rechecking, and sending this data through every chart, graph, and statistical analysis tool I had available, here’s what I found… The police departments most likely to be accused of unjust physical violence have two things in common… 1) They reside, on average, in the cities with the highest violent crime rates, and 2) These departments are typically outliers in the number of officers employed compared to said crime rates. The FEWER officers available to handle the workload, the more likely they are to cross the line. It turns out the “epidemic” of police brutality doesn’t exist; what we have are officers in highly violent areas, regularly dealing with violent offenders who have no qualms about harming or killing cops, who are also handling case loads three to five times what their colleagues in other cities have to deal with. They’re overworked, overwhelmed, underpaid, and threatened on almost a daily basis. In the US, an officer is assaulted with a deadly weapon every single day, almost exclusively because the suspect just doesn’t want to be arrested. We’d call that an unjustified attack. You don’t have to tell them the statistics; they see it themselves, so when a suspect starts acting like the last five people who swung something at their heads, they tend to react accordingly. Nothing justifies an officer who cross the line. That said, if we want fewer officers crossing that line, one of the biggest factors to help is hiring MORE officers. Here’s an analogy. If you pit two teams of people against each other in a tug-of-war, how hard they pull the rope depends on how they perceive the strength of their teammates compared to their opponents. If you pit four against six, the four will tend to put a hell of a lot more effort in, because they know it’s required to win. Similarly, if you take away half your police force, the remainder will fight twice as hard to get the job done; twice the hours, twice the incentive to bring the suspect in (because if they don’t, nobody else is there to catch them later), and they’ll feel twice as vulnerable, with half the backup when shit goes sideways. If you really care about reducing police brutality, the answer is more police. It also helps when they have more colleagues keeping them accountable. The entire “defund the police” movement wasn’t about saving black lives; it was about letting the criminals run the show, because that’s who was out there picketing. The thieves, drug dealers, and violent offenders who just didn’t feel like changing their lifestyles OR going to prison. The rest of the protesters either drank the koolaid or had ulterior motives.

I appreciate your argument that officers left during the defund period. I was an officer in the NYPD and our overtime was cut when the budget was slashed by 1 billion. As overtime is factored into our pensions, I had no choice but to leave. The NYPD is currently losing approx 300-350 members per month. That’s the equivalent of an entire city precinct PER MONTH. Again thanks for this clear and candid dissection of a polarizing subject.

You don't need someone with "authority", you need someone who can use force, and when the situation is violent everyone has the authority to use force in self defense.

What I'm trying to say is, when I *need* a cop, I need someone with the capacity to use force not the authority. Because in cases where I *need* them, when I'm a victim of a violent crime, everyone has the authority to use force, regardless of being a cop. What authority the police have uniquely I never need, no one needs to search someones house for drugs, no one needs to check someone for papers. The thing that people need is the capacity, not the authority.
