For everyone that asks why they wait so long I have a lipoma under my armpit and when i went to see my doctor at Kaiser she literally told me that I should wait till I can’t close my arm anymore than they will remove. She said because it’s not life threatening and it’s just for cosmetic purposes they wouldn’t remove it till it became obvious that I can’t function properly. So here I am patiently waiting till my lipoma becomes huge and can’t close my arm for my insurance to cover my procedure or I win the lottery to afford it.

Remember in some ways America is a very backward country it is not actually a Democracy people are allowed to carry guns on the street and they do not have access to free healthcare. You can bust yourself up and though I believe that you can get emergency surgery for Free or basic birthing you for example could not get physiotherapy or if your baby required extensive procedures for a congenital condition. I am sure I do not have this 100% correct but close enough. Also not America healthcare is amazingly expensive. Not because Doctors like Sandra Lee is coining it in but the medical liability insurance she pays costs a lot since America is a very litigious society. At the moment there are people going into American Hospitals because they have the Wuhan Flu very bad and coming out of Hospital owing $10's of thousand of Dollars. I know that if you are a diabetic and require insulin you have to pay hundreds of dollars every month if you do not have insurance even then you will probably have to find some money. Imagine having to pay for a drug otherwise you will die!! I am sure Americans can correct me on what I have wrong.

Its likely that this patient does not have insurance or his insurance decided the procedure was not medically necessary. Most of the procedures Dr. Lee shows us for free are cosmetic and not covered by insurance. She does not show us medically-necessary procedures like removing skin cancer.

For sure ours in the UK is not the best there are some problems like getting some very expensive drugs the thousands of dollars a month some regions cannot provide them some can and sometimes you might have to wait some time for procedures. But if you need a prothstetic limb you get it if you need insulin you get it. I know that if you need emergency care you can get it for free I think but after that you need to have health insurance or to pay for after care. So it seems. A friend of mine who was semi retired and lived abroad had to return and have very complex and expensive Brain surgery otherwise he would of died I think it was in the hundreds of thousands and wiped him out financially. It seems inconceivable that one of the richest countries in the world would let it's people just die.

I see a few comments questioning why someone would wait to seek treatment, allowing this condition to progress to such an extreme degree. Typically, the reason people delay treatment is lack of money. The United States remains the only country in the developed world without a system of universal healthcare. Many of us lack insurance as well. Even with insurance, your bill could still be in the thousands. There is something almost criminal in the way our healthcare system functions (or rather, doesn't function). For example, a few years ago I had to have my appendix removed. When the hospital thought I had insurance, my bill was going to be around $40,000. After I told them I did not have health insurance, suddenly my bill was knocked down to around $7,000. I have no idea why there was such a drastic difference. Many people have, unfortunately, perished for no other reason than lack of funds. An neighbor of mine refused an ambulance ride to the hospital (typically a $2,000 bill for a trip of just a few miles) because she could not afford it. She chose to call a taxi service instead. This obviously delayed her arrival to the emergency department of our local hospital . She did not survive. She was only in her early 60s and had a stroke. It was actually a bit of a local scandal as doctors stated that she may have made it had she arrived earlier. Many Americans carry some amount of medical debt. Our prohibitively high prescription medication costs are another issue all together. There are so many of us who make just enough money to not qualify for government assistance, but too little to afford insurance and healthcare costs. I am 43, and can only hope that our country adopts some form of universal healthcare before I reach old age.

You are the best! We would love for you to visit Tanzania for at least a month. You could arrange in advance with some hospitals, preferably in Dar es Salaam, and assist as a guest doctor. I’ve noticed many people here with similar issues as shown in the video. Unfortunately, many leave their lipomas untreated due to lack of proper medical assistance and financial constraints.
