Agreed, the soundtrack in the films wasn't particularly outstanding, but Robotnik's theme was really great. It's the perfect mix of intimidating and bumbling. I parricularly love the parts with the violin.

I’m here for it. I think overall Robotnik is the best part of these films. It’s clear that it’s just the actor riffing as much as he pleases, so it takes me back to when Jim was Count Olaf in Series of Unfortunate Events.

His role as Robotnik also takes me back to most of his roles of the Cable Guy. What I like about this Eggman is that while he is enjoyable to watch and comedic, he’s actually a serious threat to Sonic.

@@stairmasternem well in the first movie, it was mostly his job to capture Sonic, but then when he found out about the power the hedgehog holds, he leans more into villainy. The second movie makes his hatred for him obsessive and even animalistic, that it becomes his undoing.

For how comical Dr. Robotnik is, his theme by Tom Holkenborg was actually pretty appropriate. It matches an intimidating demeanor with a bit of a wacky twist to exemplify the good doctor's less than stable grip on sanity. I was pretty impressed, again, for a sonic movie of all things, to have such a nice soundtrack.

Loved the dissonant horror-like tremolo strings and those electronics are a nice touch followed by the low brass and the subtle chimes too. I also liked the choirs here too.

It’s especially intriguing how each element of Dr. Robotnik’s theme has its own distinct purpose in contrast to a generic modern movie villain theme. The chimes give you a doomsday vibe, like death is waiting around the corner. In this case, Robotnik looming his shadow all over humanity, yearning to take over the world. The chimes are also rather ironic since Robotnik stated “I’ll be home by Christmas”, which alludes to the chimes having a Christmas kind of feel, but rather dark and unsettling. The electronics and low brass emphasize Robotnik’s army of Badniks and his reliance on technology. He relied on technology his whole life, which got him through the ‘system’ and growing up without parents. The strings are a nice touch since it has an uneasiness feel to it, giving off a sinister vibe. The same can be said for the choirs. Of course, every villain theme needs a choir, but for Robotnik it just feels right. You can sense the narcissism and evil just from the dark choirs, showing his unnatural state of mentality; that being to enslave all of humanity and “force them to serve as his machines”. My favorite Robotnik track would have to be at 10:39, since all elements are utilized here and it is like the Imperial March but Sonic. It all works perfectly! Simply put, I freaking love this theme and I hope for the third movie, they remix it even more and make it like the Imperial March from Star Wars. Listen to 15:06 as an example. My only hope is that they use classic Sonic music from the games and implement that into the movies, just like the Mario Movie. Also, thanks for reading this far into my analysis of Robotnik’s theme. I’m not a musician by any means, nor have experience regarding music. I just love listening and understanding it. :-) Have a great day/night!

@@ARandomSonicTuber how to described the suite was pretty much on point to what I was kind of thinking. Really loved that. Feels like a mix of Home Alone, Krampus and I think hints of Batman. Least that is what my ears are telling me. There is also bits of Star Wars like you pointed out and some Spider-Man vibes here too.

I have no idea. A lot of the time they'll use original themes from games and what not in the films, but they'll only play snippets. I wonder how much of it is what the composer wants compared to what the studio can get. An example is Holkenborg's score for Godzilla vs Kong, which is a great score, but continuity wise is super odd because in King of the Monsters they used the classic theme only to disregard it for a new theme. And it's not that the new one is bad, I loved the GvK theme, but its so weird to just do something else when you've already gotten the rights for the original theme and what not.
