@@gsfbffxpdhhdf7043 dick comment. I mean, since they posted that and your more recent reply, you’re not wrong… Opiophobia is back in vogue for patients with pain. But your tone sucked.

@@katvtayAlthough I have never developed alcoholism, I refrained from telling my doctor about my family history of alcohol abuse. I have severe pain and did not want to chance being refused opioids, getting too little opioid, and/or being constantly monitored with drug tests and pill counts. The doctor has me down as low risk. Do you think I was wrong not to tell the truth here? I have now been on opioids for 10 years with no trouble of addiction.

@@klarity1111 You absolutely did the right thing. Unfortunately, “risk tools“ have been weaponized. What was developed with good intentions became nothing more than an algorithm for denying care due to certain points tallied from family or personal history (such as - relative with addiction or being a victim of past abuse). Patients risk losing care if they are honest with their doctors in this day and age. Sad but true.

@@katvtay Thank you. I hate not to be honest, but I need my pain meds! It's amazing how many things are adding up as reasons to deny people opioid treatment. It's getting scary just to open my mouth near a caretaker.

this is actually one of the smartest doctors iv hears talk about this subject I'm a patient and as one I respect u hugely ur arguments are great I tried alot of non narcotic meds alot I get screaming pain in my legs at night i had to literally constantly keep moving my legs till I passed out which was never talk about wanting to die and I'm only thirty it sucked...what sucks is when u don't have any insurance I can't find a long acting pill that works n that I can afford oxycotin cost me 525 dollars so I had to stop n switch to a none long acting I honestly would rather take thirty to forty mgs of methadone it makes me not want or crave any other drug I would so much rather that and it's cheap but my doctor won't prescribe it... I'm typing this and listening to u man i wish u were my doctor finally a doctor that actually knows about the medicine he's giving

Thank you doctor for a very informative video. I wish the pain management doctors in Florida had your level of expertise and compassion. It has become a nightmare for legitimate chronic pain patients down here due to all the new laws created to stop the addicts and pill mills. The only thing they've done here is made it almost impossible for legitimate chronic pain patients to get the medicine needed to help them live a somewhat normal life. The addicts have not been affected by the new laws.

Don’t forget, he was PAID BY PERDUE PHARMA. Years after his Pain paper, suggesting that pain patents treated with opioids might not be at risk of addiction, Portenoy said it was based on “weak, weak data” and called it “a little paper that turned into an important paper” after he realized he would be held accountable too, COWARD.
