Perfect timing dr Gregory!!!I reconnected with an old time friend from middle school. He started regurgitating Peterson rhetoric. I genuinely sat down silently and just felt bad for him for a solid minute. Linked him some feminist books, Nietzsche, leyotard, Heidegger(Peterson has half ass phenomenology in his books and lectures while mis citing Heidegger horribly) and I linked him this video and blocked him. This Peterson guy ruined the lives of so many men it’s genuinely sad.

It is indeed sad to see. Hopefully your friend will someday outgrow Peterson

you think blocking him is going to work? Blocking him might just embolden his belief even more. And even despite that, if you were in his shoes, would being blocked even push you towards changing your mind? Its sad to see friendships ending because of contrary beliefs

@@universe36 He’s not responsible for his friend’s stupid beliefs. I say block away

@@universe36 they are not merely contrary beliefs, they are genuinely actions he lives by. Not even 30 mins after taking to him(mind you I haven’t had any form of real contact with him since our time in middle school) he immediately started with unbelievable and irrational hate. His life didn’t pan out the way he wanted and Peterson gave him a good reason: feminist postmodernist neo Marxists. He started out with feminist ruin society(the source was a Tedx talk) and Marxists are out to get us and Marx is bad because he thinks he mastered Marx by reading the manifesto, when I tried to explain to him patiently that it’s directed for literal uneducated English peasants he wouldn’t take that for an answer. I immediately gave up once he unironically said: you need a dose of the red pill. I told him to read the books that I mentioned and blocked him.

In response to the Peterson discussion, i hope I am not misunderstanding but I feel that while his rhetoric against marxism/postmodernism is uninformed, that his points about organizing your life and taking responsibility are strong points that get dismissed offhand because of his politics. I am also concerned about how his opposition to bill C16 was misconstrued by some, he has stated that he opposed forced language, not trans individuals. Im sorry if I am misunderstanding, I just dont want to throw the baby out with the bathwater.

You are indeed misunderstanding. That baby ain't worth keeping, and if you think it is, you need to do much more reading and thinking

I have to strongly agree with the professor here. why do need Peterson? to get your life straight? read some Aristotle, Seneca, Epictetus, Cicero, Plato, Nietzsche and other existentialist thinkers, some Freud, and amazing contemporaries that actually read, thought out, synthesized carefully the above-mentioned philosophers like Macintyre and David Detmer. why do need Peterson now? he has some insightful ethics/metaphysics/epistemology? let me quote a little something he said that made my eyes roll to the back of my freaking head:"You know? Numbers are an abstraction from the underlying reality but no one in their right mind would really think numbers aren't true. You can even make a case that the numbers are more real than the things that they represent, right? Because the abstraction is so insanely powerful. Once you have mathematics, you're just deadly. You can move the world with mathematics. It's not obvious that the abstraction is less real than the more concrete reality." what profound insight is he making other than he's basically getting turned on thinking of numbers? he didn't define what abstraction is, the limits of abstraction, in what sense mathematics is deadly, and in what sense it's not, he's literally just throwing in random statements, didn't clarify further,"you're out of your mind if you think otherwise", and his followers are creaming their pants. read Nietzsches truth and lie in an extra moral sense, Bergson's amazing Time and Free Will, Plato's Ion. Peterson is your average psychologist that got famous for being transphobic. period.

I hate my professor. He didn't award me marks and if i even wrote what you tell in videos.

You should be focused on studying texts and citing them on assignments, not writing what is in a video
