Dr. Sher Zaman of Hunza: First PhD of Gilgit-Baltistan & Honest Bureaucrat of Pakistan [in Urdu]

Dr. Sher Zaman belongs to a small settlement of Huna called Dorkhan. He was born perhaps in 1935 and is at present 89 years old. After getting his early and secondary education from Hunza and Gilgit respectively, he goes to Karachi in the 1950s. he spent a productive amount of time with his maternal uncle Shah Zaman (an influential change agent of political development in Hunza) . Dr. Sher Zaman completed his intermediate and university level education from Karachi. He has done his PhD in 1974 from Tehran University, Iran. His PhD dissertation was an aspect of Hazrat Nasir Khusraw Qubodyoni of Khurasan, a legendary Pir, scientist and musician. He served the Establishment Division of Pakistan as an honest bureaucrat for decades and got his retirement.
Apart from his academic accomplishments and professional pursuit, Dr. Sher Zaman remained proactive in voluntary activitiesin different capacity. Along with his uncle and other fellows, he also remained proactive in politics during his student life in Karachi.
I was fortunate to meet him for the first time in the 1990s when he was Joint Secretary in the Establishment Devision, Islamabad. Afterwards, I would meet him time and again whenever I encountered issues pertaining to the students of Gilgit-Baltistan region duringmy Masters, M. Phil and Phd . Dr. Sher Zaman, possessing a highly compassionate, upstanding and caring personality, supported the students (male and female) pertaining to the university and college admissions from Peshawar University to Quaid Azam University and the colleges in Islambad and the like.
Today, he is 89 year of his age and along with his family, he is in Rawalpindi. His caring wife, Mrs. Muniza Yasmin (a retired school teacher) is from Hafizabad of Punjab. He has five children (three daughters and two sons). I got an opportunity to meet him in a decade’s time on February 13, 2024. Though, he is facing demensia a bit, I could mange to talk to him and his family members. I tried to capture some aspects of his life through friendly discussioin and by involving his family members to contribute on his personality. I hope the audience wi8ll appreciate his genuine efforts and contributions. For the sake of consistency and developing written biography, I’m going to publish the video as podcast at lenth which spands over one hour and thirty nine minutes.
