@@pinkfloydguy7781 That is closer to the actual meaning. The song playing with the nuclear explosions means the human race is ending. "We'll meet again, don't know where, don't know when..." The answer is never, it is sarcastic. A note by the film maker that "This is what you are headed for, stop it."
@pinkfloydguy77813 жыл бұрын
@@DylansPen Ah, yeah, that’s the end of intelligence in human form. But it does have a note of hopefulness the way I read it, because while probably not in the sense of literal rebirth, intelligent life returns to being an abstraction or a latent possibility, and we “meet again” the next time conditions coalesce to producing a human-like species. Not that I think we have eternal souls that will literally inhabit those next beings, if they ever exist on Earth, but it’s just an analogy for the idea that humans probably are not the last intelligent species. Life goes on without us! And then in that sense, this song tears me up because it starts to sound like humanity’s goodbye to the universe.

@cameronneagli10 жыл бұрын
I really love this ending, it is perfect for this movie. The whole movie was spent satirizing nuclear warfare, and this ending shows the audience exactly what nuclear bombs are capable of -- massive destruction. It really makes you think. Also, the back round music, being sort of up beat and happy, creates a nice contrast. Furthermore, I think for audiences in 1964, when this movie can out, visually seeing this bombs go off was more of a shock factor -- nuclear bombs were still fairly new, 20 years old. I mean, nowadays you see explosions like this everyday on TV or the internet.
@Alphaboo29 жыл бұрын
+cameronneagli Actually those are thermonuclear devises created by the evil edward teller who felt that the atomic bomb was not powerful enough. They were first exploded in 1952. Only 12 years befire this movie. Dr Strangelove is partly based on edward teller who was not a Nazi an worked on the Manhattan Project. Thermonuclear devices are so powerful their fuse is an atomic bomb.

@dastemplar96816 жыл бұрын
The whole point of the movie was to get those people crying to “already nuke the commies” to shut the hell up. It showed the absolute destruction of nuclear war and consequences if they pushed the button. Maybe not to such an extent that all of humanity would be wiped out, but certainly the US, Soviet Union, and a good portion of Europe. It is shown that in order to truly vaporize the world in atomic fire and reduced it to Fallout apocalypse you would have to take all the nuclear weapons that existed, multiple it by 12,000 and equally space them all over the world. So the whole ‘end of the world’ spectrum is not a realistic possibility. But certainly the end for two major superpowers and a good chunk of the human population.

This is a subtle critique of American exceptionalism and ‘good war’ nostalgia as the heart and soul of cold war aggression. Juxtaposing a USO singalong with the nuclear explosions says the attitude has not changed but the weaponry has grown to threaten all earthly life.

Hello, my name is smith. I went through pretty depressing moments recently. Knowing what could come in the next couple of weeks I just want to say. That although my life was nothing but misery and confusion. I’m at least happy I won’t be facing this alone. I hope this scenario never comes but if it those, I just want to say thank you everyone that brought me joy in this confusing world. Hope I see you on the order side

What a great movie. Right up there with The Godfather and John Carpenter's The Thing--I could watch it a million times.

Part of what makes this this movie so horrifying is the realization to how dangerously close we were to going off to war with Russia and especially the concern in times like this of who is in power It wakes you up in the night and sends shivers to you while going to bed knowing that some crazy bastard could end the world with the push of a button

In the end, the enemies never actually died, the nazis(Strangelove himself) and the stupid war USA and the Soviet Union would just stop for some time, they would wait till the world is safe to get out and then they would meet again, someday, somewhere. Kubrick is a fucking genius!

There are a lot of compelling moments in this movie, but for me, these last two minutes have always stuck out as the cleverest and most memorable, and as the part that elicits the strongest emotional response from me. There's something awesome about how Kubrick has the audience share one brief instant of total shock and even elation with Strangelove, smile at his overjoyed reaction, and then cuts rapidly between shots of the world ending. It's a pretty perfect way to end the movie.
