day 9 add fish? the tank has 1.0ppm of ammonia, nitrite 1.0ppm and sky high 160ppm nitrate. That would kill most fish. Least you were smart enough to wait it out and then do a water change

I think I got a bad batch! I noticed yours came out an orange color. I seem to remember mine being clear and no smell at all! Did yours have a smell. I remember thinking I felt like I just put in water so must not have been orange. the water did turn cloudy. i am on day 6 and my nitrites have been continuously stuck on 0.25 since day 3! I checked for nitates and I do have them so thats a good sign! I remember my first tank took I think 2 1/2 with no bacteria other then live sand. I had to leave the tank along for weeks because of a family emergency. I should have added Dr Tims when I got back home but I wasnt in a hurry like now so I waited it out months and I was showing nitrates early on as well! I might have screwed up though because I detected some ammonia b4 I added it. I read later on not to add untill you have 0 ammonia! my ammonia has been stuck on 4 maybe 5 at first and havnt added anymore, I ordered some fritz turbo start which I should have in the beginning, they have much better reviews! Did you go through an ugly stage and how long before you turned lights on? I am anxious to transfer some high end zoas from my other 2 tanks. This is a 20 gallon frag tank and I also have no sand and just rubble and rock so could be taking longer for that reason. Do you think I should do a water change with ammonia so high? Someone said Dr Tim said to do one if over 2 ppm! Great video! Thanks for sharing!

This is the best video out there to use this type of liquids/bacteria in a bottle. I've used almost all of the brands and they all have a similar effect. However I don't use them. I prefer after a few days I add hardy plants or corals or algae depending on the aquarium. And I leave it like that for months and then I add some fish or invertebrate. So, good job! 😊👍

Absolutely a beautiful and informative journey towards having a safe/beautiful tank. My only and only thought on this process was...She added a lil too much Amonia which extended the cycling process for such a small tank, but again...the results are amazing. Well done

I would suggest to wait until your nitrite hits 0, then big water change to lower the nitrates and you should be good to go.

@@HerNanoReefs does all the bacteria die off if we leave the ammonia level at 0 and wait for Nitrite goes down ?
@himselymach26903 жыл бұрын
Same as me. Did u wait Unit the nitrite become 0?
@aimeecoleman8883 жыл бұрын
@@lelongg2588 I think the goal is to go from 4PPM ammonia to zero ammonia and zero nitrates within 24 hours, so you should redose the ammonia if it’s at zero but you still have nitrites. Once you get them both to zero in 24 hours, cycle is complete and you should do a big water change to get your nitrates in the safe range. Can add fish once water temperature and parameters are appropriate (including pH).
@richardsagrit71532 жыл бұрын
@@aimeecoleman888 the issue is everywhere you read it says high nitrites stall the cycle. So when I already have high nitrites which I get right back after the first dose of ammonia after water changes I hesitate to add more ammonia. The problem is if 5ppm of nitrite stalls a cycle, I have to do almost 100% water changes every day. It’s sooooo confusing. So many places say if you’re high nitrite it will stall your cycle, others say just keep dosing ammonia til it eventually drops one day. But if I’m worried about it stalling, how can I just wait weeks for it to drop not knowing if it’s stalled and I’m waiting for no reason? I guess what I’m asking is do I just ignore the high nitrite stalling myth? Just continue to dose ammonia until not just it by the nitrite drop as well? I’m literally doing 90% water changes and STILL have high nitrites, and that’s with only dosing 16 drops of ammonia in a 10 gallon tank…..

I just did my first test and got 4ppm of ammonia and 0 nitrites. Should I be concerned? The first test I did on day 0 read 0 on everything
@Scxbah3 жыл бұрын
The cycle is a process. First ammonia is added. That ammonia then converts to nitrites and the nitrites convert to nitrates. You're still at the start of the cycle if you have ammonia with no nitrites. When nitrites increase and ammonia decreases you'll know you are progressing

Hi, you still have to monitor your tank, because it’s not established. Bacteria can die off , as quickly as they produced… After 6-8 months aquarium is really safe.
