I was thrilled to find the historical marker that enlighten me to this town. And was so please to find a similar settlement just out my backdoor here in Colorado. I just upload a video all about our Dearfield Colorado

With him being a buffalo soldier most likely the way he ended up there was being a buffalo soldier because they where at one time stationed at a fort close by Roswell. I think it was fort Stanton

I think you need to speak to the family and attend our reunion to know how my great grandfather got to Blackdom, before you say it a mith .

I've done extensive research on Blackdom and respectfully disagree with Dr. Nelson on quite a few points. Particularly since interviews with the grandson of Francis Boyer give a different perspective.

So name a few point you disagree with Dr. Nelson about? He is a Ph.D. trained Historian, his knowledge includes so much more history than just Blackdom history. He had to defend his dissertation based on his several years of research and he had to provide copies of the records. Boyer's grandson has information that has been handed down that is relevant. Families don't always agree with historians because their emotions are involved. There is a place for family stories, and there is a place for objective research based on several types of records, and a larger understanding of several types of history. Most importantly, one must have a knowledge of the African Diaporia, American history, World history, and the three visions of Marcus Garvey, Booker T. Washington and W.E.B. DuBois, and the political motivations of the multiple colonization schemes taking place in the Borderlands to serve conflicting agendas during that era while the border was heavily militarized. American history left out 75+ years of history from us to know. You can disagree. However, you may learn something new.
