The Soil Food Web School’s mission is to empower individuals and organizations to regenerate the soils in their communities. The Soil Food Web Approach can dramatically accelerate soil regeneration projects by focussing on the soil biome. This can boost the productivity of farms, provide super-nutritious foods, protect and purify waterways, and reduce the effects of Climate Change. No background in farming or biology is required for our Foundation Courses. Classes are online & self-paced, and students are supported by highly-trained Soil Food Web School mentors.
Over the last four decades, Dr. Elaine Ingham has advanced our knowledge of the Soil Food Web. An internationally-recognized leader in soil microbiology, Dr. Ingham has collaborated with other scientists and with farmers around the world to further our understanding of how soil organisms work together and with plants. Dr. Ingham is an author of the USDA's Soil Biology Primer and a founder of the Soil Food Web School.
00:00 Dr. Vandana Shiva Intro
01:53 Biggest current threats facing humanity that can be addressed using regenerative agriculture
12:10 How does conventional agriculture contribute to ecosystem collapse and how regenerative agriculture mitigates this
21:42 What are the effects of conventional agriculture on soil erosion and how can these be addressed using regenerative agricultural practices?
24:39 What effect are agrochemicals having on our rivers and oceans and can regenerative ag feed the world without the use of chemicals?

Vandana Shiva, what you say makes total sense, is wholly logical and would be the answer (one of the answers) for agriculture, were it not for the fact that money has to control everything, even to the point of destruction of the planet. When is money going to admit that money has the money, money doesn't have the answers?!

This is a good video and I agree with what Dr. Shiva has said. But at the risk of being selfish I would simply like to know if i should only use microbes while I'm already planting bilberries in a garden or should i use microbes as soon as I plant them in the pot before I transplant them to the garden and then repeat the process when in transplanting them to their permanent place in the garden for best results. I'm not a farmer or a scientist and I only have a small garden (still it is probably the only back yard in half the city to which bees actually come to which is too bad) and I know bilberries are good for you 9plus I like the taste) and I would like to have best results growing them. I know you need acidic soil but i don't know if its ok to put in the microbes as soon as you put in bilberry seeds or do I have to wait until planting them in their permanent place?

@bartangel4867
@bartangel4867 2 жыл бұрын
@@tejasvi18joshi My garden is pretty diverse. But right now I'm growing bilberries in the pot before I put them in the garden permanently. according to what I read this is what you are supposed to do. honestly I don't know if its true or not. most of the gardening is done by my mother but the way we did it was to simply either put the seeds into the garden or baby plants. i wanted a small plant already slightly grown rather than the seed but there wasn't any available so i have to grow them from the seed. i already put the seeds into the soil in my pot but I'm worried that they won't grow. Because they didn't have any tails when I put them into the soil although they did get little bit bigger. Right now its too early to tell if something will grow. I mixed pittmoss with the soil. (from what I read that is what you are supposed to do although i don't know if it is or even if it is ok for the environment because after I read that taking pittmoss from the swamps is damaging to swamp's ecology but I have already bought it so i figured I might as well use it I'm sorry if what I did was destructive but i didn't plan on this being this way. and in Chicago its very hard to get anything natural. I don't intend to use any artificial fertilizers that is why I was looking at microbes)

@@amyjones2490 Many thanks for your reply. It took 9 days to get a reply , Maybe nobody wants to touch this subject. I think, here we go again destroying the earths resources. We are total gluttons to mine the next best thing. When will we learn. I would draw the line at lawn care and encourage everyone to go the natural route of soil biology and natural fertilisers. Humic acid mining is yet another example of the destruction of our earth and must be stopped. When will we learn? Let’s start with banning it’s use in our lawns. When I think how long it took for humus to be created and we go in overnight and destroy it all so our lawns might look a little greener.. it’s immoral, simple as that. Sometimes we don’t need scientific evidence for us to know that something is wrong. We know in our gut, our spirit, that this is wrong..

in US big corporations get money for growing huge amounts of corn which is latter used to feed the cattle but the grass feeding is not encouraged in any way. But grass fed cattle is much better for you than hormone packed corn stalk fed cattle. But no one cares about that in US even though they should. Cattle is also put in tiny places where they have almost no freedom to move whatsoever which must be terrible for their physical and mental well being. Which once again no one cares about even though they should. there are fewer and fewer pollinators of all kinds especially the ones who don't make honey but are just as important to healthy ecosystem. I believe that now is the crucial time to turn things around and we will not get this opportunity again.

I’d rather consume organic and locally grown plants as feasibly possible instead of grass fed livestock to reduce my demand on the land and resources, as our planet cannot support grass fed livestock to feed everyone.
@bartangel4867
@bartangel4867 Жыл бұрын
@@allee3476 if you have alternatives I'm all for it. and you do make a good point. however same problem is with corn stalk fed livestock. and yes purely plant diet is better than purely meat diet. but you still need some meat to be healthy. Because of vitamin B12 that is mostly found in meat and diary products.
@allee3476
@allee3476 Жыл бұрын
@@bartangel4867 With all due respect, the livestock don’t create vitamin b12, which is bacteria found in the soil and streams. Rather, they ingest the bacteria when grazing and pass them along to the meat eaters. Hence you can think of meat as a supplement for vitamin b12, while I use pills as supplement for vitamin b12. I had switched over to a whole food plant based lifestyle over four years ago with no ill effects whatsoever. Also, due to the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, agricultural runoffs, etc we have managed to deplete lots of beneficial soil and stream microbes to the extent that even livestock are now administered vitamin b12. Bottom line: whether you consume animal products or not, it’s a good idea to take vitamin b12 supplements.
@bartangel4867

Absolutely Brilliant points Vandana Shiva! However, you seem to be advocating for communitarianism @ 24:15 and abolishing private property. That, in my opinion, is a look behind the green mask (as Rosa Koire called it). Are you an advocate for UN Agenda 2030? Your ideas of organic regeneration are excellent and abolishing chemical agriculture, but it imperative that it is understood that sustainable development is the antithesis of growth and smartness. It is the problem of which you so eloquently speak. We must never allow private property rights to be given over to corporations for the common good. They take and bring nothing good.

The ban on Chemical fertilisers and 100% shift to 'Organic' fertilisers was a singular reason that devastated the Sri Lankan economy. On the face of it, the ban looks like a bureaucractic blunder, but it was a deliberate move to kill the Sri Lankan economy. Let it elaborate it for you. The lady behind this move was Vandana Shiva, a Commie from India who was serving as an advisor to President Gota Rajapaksa. She is often seen on news debates in India, masquerading as someone who was trying to save the earth. In the Srilankan issue, she was funded by many Swiss NGOs who obviously were eyeing to take control of the Island nation by changing the religious dimensions. Marxists and Missionaries were behind the ban on chemical fertilizers. The entire non-agro economy is in the hand of the Muslim community. Why? Buddhists and Hindus fought each other for a hundred years and now are left with nothing. Where did the 'Swiss' in this tweet come in? The answer is this. There is a Constitutional requirement in European governments to "spread the faith." No one wants to increase their religion in Europe as they are all irreligious. So, the conversion money finds its way to lands like India, Burma and Sri Lanka. They don't have the guts to take the money to Pakistan and Bangladesh. The money is routed through hospitals and initiatives like Bread for the World, which was behind the fertilizer ban in Sri Lanka. The work of Bread for the World - Protestant Development Service primarily focuses on the support of projects in the countries of the Global South. An essential feature of their projects is the close and continuous cooperation with local, often church-related partner organisations. Upon request, Bread for the World provides them with specialists and volunteers. Through lobbying, public relations and education in Germany and Europe they seek to influence political decisions in favor of the poor and to raise awareness for the necessity of a sustainable way of life.
