Today we shall listen to "Sri Krishnam Bhaja Manasa", a composition of Muthuswami Dikshitar in Ragam Thodi, Adi Thalam, rendered by Violin Vidwan Dr.V.L.V Sudharsan.
In this song, Dikshitar worships Lord Guruvayurappan, who is the protector of his devotees, Gopala. He is worshipped by all the Devas led by Brahma and Indra, and destroys all our sorrows and grievances, granting us Moksha.
He holds the Shankha, Chakra and Gada in his hands and is adorned with the Vanamala. He is fond of playing the flute, and is bedecked with all ornaments. He is revered by Guruguha, and is always accompanied by Goddess Lakshmi, and is enshrined in the town of Guruvayur.

About the Artist:
Dr.V.L.V.Sudharsan is the son and disciple of Violin Maestro Sri V.L.Vedagiri. He is primarily a Violinist, and is also a Viola Player and a Vocalist. He has done his PhD in Musical Therapy.
Sri Sudharsan has accompanied all top musicians in Carnatic Music field such as Dr.M.Balamuralikrishna, Guruji Dr.B.Govindarajan sir and others. He has traveled abroad to give solo Concerts as well as part of his musical troupe Pranavanaadham. He also provided Violin accompaniment for Raaja Gaanamrutham, the recently released album of Guruji's songs.
He is a lyricist and tunesmith and has set to tune many compositions; among them are five songs of Saint Purandaradasa which are set to tune in the same style as Thyagarajaswami's Pancharatna Kritis and have been termed "Purandaradasa Pancharatnam". He is currently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Music, Annamalai University, Chidambaram.
