TITLE: What do you say about Dr. Zakir Naik? (The Eminent Shaykh Dr. Wasiullah Abbas, may Allah preserve him- Teacher in The Haram of Makkah) INTERVIEWER: May the peace, mercy and blessings if Allah be upon you. We are currently present with the Shaykh, Dr. Wasiullah Abbas, may Allah preserve him. So Shaykh, please tell us about the condition of Dr. Zakir Naik. THE SHAYKH: May Allah bless you. Firstly, I’d like to say that I have love for Dr. Zakir Naik. Because the work this individual has done in delegating and speaking of the Kitab and Sunnah, is a unique skill he has developed. If this individual has made errors in questioning and answering, then based on (the verse): “ إِنَّ ٱلْحَسَنَٰتِ يُذْهِبْنَ ٱلسَّيِّـَٔات” “Verily, the good deeds remove the evil deeds” {Surah Hud, Ch. 11, V. 114} The Salafi man should not mention them (the errors) and he shouldn’t refrain people from listening to his lectures. I have seen that this man was an actual Medical Doctor, but for Allah’s sake he started working in (the field of Da’wah) so that Hindus, Christians and Jews can be refuted by their own books and he has worked a lot for that. He started from ground zero. He didn’t even know Urdu previously. Even now, he slips here and there when he speaks Urdu. Hence I would like to say that Allah has taken a special task from this individual which is for the propagation of the Kitab and the Sunnah. In the last conference, I myself was present and so was Shaykh Shuraim. 41 well educated and esteemed men and women told him that “From your channel I have benefitted a lot, and became Muslim. There was no coercion and by full free will, we learnt about the Deen after hearing your lectures.” Now, in this current situation, while he suffers so much, I pray that Allah increases him in success. He is also learning Arabic. With his wife and children, he took out 4 months exclusively to study this (Arabic) under a Sudani teacher, after consulting me and Shaykh Shuraim. So the man is working hard to know to Deen in the best of ways. You will see the Kitab and Sunnah in his lectures, and the references to the Fatwas of my Shaykhs, Shaykh bin Baz, Sheikh ibn ‘Uthaymeen and others. This is a very valuable thing, and I have heard heard myself from youth in Europe, saying that “The Jews used to attack us and Islam earlier, now we can refute them in universities.” This is a beneficial individual, all praise belongs to Allah. I pray that Allah blesses him in his years to come, and grants him well being and keeps him away from calamities. Whatever is going on nowadays, like his prohibition of going to India as you know, I pray that Allah grants him the freedom to go to his homeland and be able to serve the Deen worldwide and reside anywhere. May Allah grant him success. And may the peace, mercy and blessings of Allah be upon you.
