Love the detail....so nice Adam. It seems so simple....because it is. Fingers, touch, settings, tone, technique, amp, guitar, cable....thank you!

Yes, simple, no flash, just guitar and amp. I seem to have the most fun playing that way these days. Side note, watched some old Skynard stuff recently and was kind of blown away with how they basically did just that. The rhythm tone is the guitar rolled back a bit, and the lead tones were the guitar full out. Made me think a little. They were incredibly tight too, like obviously they rehearsed their asses off.

@@AdamGotheridge Thanks Adam...I hear the same thing in those early songs. Some got so overplayed we overlooked how hard it is to play so tight.

If so, I hope you like it. It's capable of a lot of tones. Keep in mind that it wants to be a pretty loud amp.

I hope I can get more into gear and stuff like this, for the past 2.5 years I've just had one amp to mess around with. Cool stuff 🤘

No worries, it will come in time and you sound great. When I was your age I had Peavy Deuce (ouch) and a LP custom that I bought new for $620 and rode home on my bike. I started working as a janitor after school when I was 14, 3 hours a day, 5 days a week. That paid for that stuff. I couldn't afford all this fun stuff until way later in life. If I can give you any advice at all, just keep playing and try to make whatever gear you have sound the best you can with your hands. That will pay dividends forever. I also think there is something where the time you spend dedicating yourself to the instrument now is more beneficial than when you get older. Take advantage of that while. you can. Try to play with a metronome as much as you can, even if you are goofing around. Try to tap your foot to time whenever you are playing. If you are practicing technique with say scales, try to count in your head 1/8's (1 and 2 and..) triplets (1 and a 2 and a...) 16'ths (1 e and a 2 e and a, etc). And try to switch that as you keep your tapping foot anchored on 1/4 notes. Drilling that stuff in your brain while your brain is still good and malleable will help you big time in the long haul. It's harder to learn that stuff as you get older. Wishing you the best! Music is a real gift, and I see you get it.

@@AdamGotheridge Thank you for the advice! I haven’t messed around with a metronome in ages but I want to focus on it more for sure. I will be sure to do that. Have a good one!

I think I prefer the antidote! A little sweeter top end
@AdamGotheridge
@AdamGotheridge 2 жыл бұрын
That could have something to do with how I set the amp, maybe a little of KT66's, not really sure. I just kind of set each one for how it sounded good to me and that's where I wound up. Antidote set a little cleaner, and probably in general is a little cleaner amp too.

Great video and seems a silly question after you using the amp in this video. I'm stuck between getting a Dr Z Antidote or a Remedy. I'm going to be using it for a Zeppelin tribute band. Which would be the best fit. I know the Remedy has the snarl which I love but the Antidote sounds fuller and more woody, can it also snarl? I love both amps but can't buy both. Also will my cabs be okay for either. I've got a Z-Wreck Cab with a blue and gold in and a Z-Best Cab with a v30 and a H30. Thanks!

I think both would work well, but maybe a remedy with a master volume would be best. You can get a lot of snarl out of the Antidote with that modern switch too. Antidote, I don't think that came with a master and it can get really loud where the cool distortion really kicks in. Also, I think the antidote came with kt66s which is a bit of a warmer, fuller and cleaner sound. Remedy isn't lacking for low end if that's a worry too. The remedy is just kind of a special sound to me. Even straight up clean with humbuckers, it's a beautiful sound with plenty of volume.

Great playing as always Adam. I must say I liked the EMS better. But I do have a question , your Antidote os a very early photo-type that has switchable bias for EL 34 and KT 66 which tubes were used in the demo ?
@AdamGotheridge
@AdamGotheridge 2 жыл бұрын
I liked the EMS better too, but the eq bypass on the Antidote was cool too. 66's in the Antidote. EMS using the tube rectifier setting. Honestly, I really like both of them though. You can mold either of them into all kinds of cool sounds. And thank you! 🙏

how much clean headroom in the EMS with PAF type humbuckers? Cheers man! I have a Bogner Helios 50 currently
@AdamGotheridge
@AdamGotheridge Жыл бұрын
If you play on the JTM 50 side, TONS of clean headroom. If you play on the 800 side with gain about 9pm, and can still be very clean, but quite a bit of crunch when you dig in. On the 800 side with the gain about noon, it's pretty crunchy by default, but if you lighten up on your playing or guitar volume, it's sort of a broken up clean, but dig in and it can have quite a bit of gain. If you hit that with a pedal to boost gain, you can go into really distorted territory. It's a really flexible amp.

Are you playing with 8, 9, or 10 strings?

11's! I put 11's on it to make it more stable at 1/2 step down tuning, but brought it up to standard pitch for this. It has stainless steel frets which makes it easier to bend and doesn't feel as bad as you would think. I was kind of surprised by it because I had never tried that.
