I have three Dr Z amps, the Z Wreck, Maz 18 and a DB4. Since I always play thru two amps, I love pairing a Dr Z amp with something like a Fender or Carr. Outdoors I love the DB4 and Super Reverb and with various sized clubs I go with the Z Wreck and Deluxe Reverb or Carr Mercury V down to the Maz 18 and Princeton Reverb, with a 12" speaker, and I can dial in the perfect tone and volume every time. Thank you for making the best amplifiers since Leo.

Used my Cure at a gig a couple weeks ago for only the second time and it really is living up to my hopes as an ultimate gigging tube amp: Light, focused, smooth, controllable, pedal friendly - there's nothing else that really competes with it. The only downside is that nice big cab and that efficient 12" speaker, which are great for playing live, push a bit too much air for regular home playing. If the good Doctor were to release a low wattage combo with a small speaker...

I love my Cure… great for playing at home. I typically play at bedroom levels with the level knob at .25-.3. I wonder if that effects the power tube life?

My understanding is the less you push the power tubes, the longer they last. My issue with playing a 1x12 at bedroom volumes is that the speaker can't move enough to feel alive. That's why at home I usually play out of a little practice amp with an 8" speaker because it sounds better at the same perceived volume. Hoping that Ghia in the vid has a little speaker in it!

I have another question about the Z28 MKII. What is the midrange set at? I'm not mistaken, Fenders are set at 6.8. Just curious. Still waiting patiently the Z28 MKII to be in stock. Thanks in advance for your answer.

there's not really a "fixed setting." A tone stack is a R/C network of filters, and the treble and bass controls are passive filters as well. So I can't really answer your question with a quantifiable "number" as much as if you were to insert the network component values into a tone stack calculator, you would see a graphical representation of the bandwidth of the amp overall.

Getting ready to purchase a Maz 18 Head NR. My only concern I know you mentioned that it has Russian military grade tubes. Just wondering what happens when those tubes go bad down the road are they’re going to be replacements of the same tube, especially if the amp was designed around those tubes can I purchase an extra set of tubes, so I’m ready to go, even if it’s years down the road I just worry that those same tubes may not be available. Wanted to get your thoughts on that I would really appreciate it. Thanks.

there are a few resellers out there, and we have a stash of over 5000 tubes. You can reach out to us if you are having trouble sourcing spares at [e-mail] and we can point you to a reliable source. Also, while they are our preferred tube due to reliability, any current production EL84 will work just fine.

no, adding reverb to a EF-86 amp will change the gain structure considerably.

Try to find some HG+ (high gain) RUBY preamp tubes. You can try JJ EL844 (not a typo), which should considerably lower the headroom of the amp. Never have tried them, but that's the idea behind them.
