An under- appreciated video to say thge least. I remember when I was introduced to the speakerbuilding hobby by the Fitzmaurice designs and others in Speakerbuilder magazine in the 1990's. A superb build. Subscribed

Nice speakers, I built a pair back in the 2006 or 2007 I think. The design seems to have changed a little since then but the basic construction is the same. I only had a circular saw, a jig saw and a drill back then but they were fairly easy to build. Used them for years for keyboards and vocals at our band's practice space, good sound and plenty of volume at reasonable amplifier power.

As a fan of speaker building and the BFM designs, I want to praise you on this effort. This was a great video. I want to build an array of DR loud speakers some day.

thank you! the wood bending was by far the hardest part for me, fair warning! if you ever do get to building drop me a line if you need any help troubleshooting

@@jjzamo I appreciate it. I built a few Otop12s and some Tuba45s with relative success. Those DR cabinets are so cool though, some day!

@@gustavoramirez-rangel5773 They do sound good! we EQ'ed to taste to even out some frequencies, and high passed at 80hz when paired with tuba60, but overall impressed with the output

@@gustavoramirez-rangel5773 nice! i do think it's worth doing the melded array for the bottom of the stack, great horizontal dispersion but twice as much soldering. let me know if you need anyone to troubleshoot with

Good job 👏🏾! It must take a long time to do that.

Hi mate I'm looking at building the dr280. At the end of your video the 2 speakers have different tweeters? Any reason why or which type is better? Cheers!
@jjzamo3 жыл бұрын
i had ended up building a total of 4 of these, we went with a melded array for the bottom two for better horizontal dispersion (two stacks of tweeters glued together at a 90 degree angle), but the upper two speakers were just a straight line array, much easier to build. i didn't manage to get video of the melded array assembly... if you were only planning to build 2 of the dr280 i'd probably start with the melded array and any additional speakers to stack on top just go with the single line array. good luck with the build! shoot me a line if you need any help troubleshooting

@@jjzamo thanks man ill look into the melded array. Any idea on the make of the best quality melded array speaker? Or the one you used? Cheers!

@@finnclark8026 these were stacks of goldwood piezo GT-1016 tweeters. they took a little bit of EQ'ing to get the right sound but i think they do the job plenty well
