You guys know me by now....I have a heart for SCALE. If one accepts the full scale is built as the ultimate STOL....flying the RC Scale is a no brainer (and Nat does it well). Colour is underrated. A highly visible hue makes everything so much easier. True for substantial toys like the Draco, but even more so for smaller models. I just flew my white UMX Timber at dusk in a snow storm, and my specs still smoke.

I watched Mike Patey take Draco from an ugly duckling Wilga, to the turbo charged monster it was before it's untimely death. It was built for one primary reason, and that as to dominate the STOL Drag Racing competitions. And while it flew, it did, indeed, do that. Very few other planes came close to challenging Draco on an ongoing basis. One of those planes was Trent Palmer's Freedom Fox. It also had a RC version that was highly accurate to the real plane, but the first release of it from Flite Test had a number of problems with the electronics and such. They have recently brought out a new version of it (V2), and I would think they have fixed the problems with it. It would be fun to see the RC versions of both Draco and the Freedom Fox flying in formation just like they did any number of times in real life. Even more fun if people did some scale model STOL Drag Racing!

I have had nothing but problems with my Draco. The rear steering wheel is horrible. Every time I land it kicks the plane to the right so severely that the wing hits the ground resulting in a crash. I have tried to loosen it, tighten it, adjust it, even replace some parts, although they do not make it very easy to get to. when I grab the wheel, it moves a little without the rudder so you never know if the Wheel is straight when you touchdown

I might suggest setting your flaps on/off to a slow movement. Instant off flaps just didn't look good, IMO. Love your vids!🛩

Draco was designed for STOL off the runways. It's a tundra plane.

I'm a big DRACO fan. It's not my favorite goto plane, but I still love it. No, it won't aerobat like my FLEX RV8, but it isn't supposed to. If you want to shoot STOL or touch-n-goes? Amazing. And super scale replica. Was sad when Mike wadded up the real one. Glad they walked away.

First off Draco is a stol plane. It’s not meant to be a fast 3D aircraft. To compare this with other aircraft is like comparing apples and oranges. If you learn its strengths and fly it as it is meant to be flown you will love it. It takes off extremely short and has incredible climb out ability. It flies very slow and lands in a very short space, especially if you come in high alpha and slow, engage reverse throttle just as the rear wheel touches the ground. Also can fly from almost any area that is flat enough. Fly it with 4000 packs and it is at its optimum for weight/power. With the 4000 pack it is much more agile and can do most any maneuver, is it a 3D plane,no. But Draco is its own catagory. It’s a 4x4 in the sky.

Can you tell me if that is powerfull enough to fly at 7-8 thousand feet? Many years ago I bought a trainer that did not have enough power to take off at our altitude. I was hoping for a big plane, for a beginner, that looked nice, had stabilization for a beginner, and power to fly at altitude. thank you; Donn

There’s a lot better beginner planes like the carbon cub and most RCs will fly at that altitude without problem.
