I think this is one of the best versions of Dracula on screen. He's not too over the top, just enough to be sadistic, yet he has a weird charm about him. If he'd ask, I'd sit as his table. It also shows the more magical side, but without really doing too much later, again, just enough to make you feel like this is a real person.

Vlad was fighting against Islamic warlords, on one side, and Catholic warlords on the other. Both the Catholics and the Muslims were dictated to, from within Venice. The Turks were also essentially given Constantinople, by approval from Venice.

This show is such a forgotten gem. I mean it's not perfect in every aspect, like the last season was rushed and not always coherent, and most of the female characters were treated flatly by the writers. But it's a truly unique piece of storytelling. Not many shows are as stylized and quirky as Da Vinci's Demons was. I really enjoyed Paul Rhys as Vlad, what a really polished side character and performance, quite visually striking as well. He was only in a couple of episodes but felt like a fully fledged character with a backstory and all. It's really surprising how seriously this show took it's characters. It's wild how it had one of the most complex antagonists ever in Count Riario's character. With a rewatch, something about him in particular got to me because you can really see how f*cking traumatized and irrational he was all along. Too bad the show didn't get enough love by Starz and they cancelled it a good season or two too early in my opinion.

Has zero in common with Vlad Dracul except his hate for the turks and his childhood, also the theft thing was real, during Tepes travellers were shocked that nobody stole. Well, you wouldn't have a hand otherwise. BTW, I'm Romanian and I knew his history.

@@Antar-Draconis glad to provide some information. He was a strange man and we have here for a long long time, even before romanians, the story of a creature that sucks the blood. Although Dracule book was actually written due to the real story of a Hungarian Contess that took bath in the blood of virgins. She had 0 connections to Dracula except that she lived in Transilvania, part of Hungary at that time.
