As someone with no familiarity with this musical, is it safe to hope that Johnathan lives happily? Like, they're remembering that he exists, which is a step above most adaptations, but they still seem to be going the Mina/Dracula route, so I'm kinda nervous for him.

Well, in the original, he doesnt die or anything. But he does end up finding Mina sobbing and cradling Dracula's body after she kills him, so he's not dead, but will probably need some marriage counseling. Or any counseling.

OK I am confused AF. Why does Dracula come off as lusting after Mina exclusively? Was that added to the musical cuz I know it wasn't in the book.

You are correct, in the original book Dracula was a disgusting and loathsome predator, but many adaptations especially the musicals made Dracula seem like a heartbroken anti-hero instead of the tyrannical leech he was In the original book. In the original book Mina was solely in love with her husband to be Johnathan and completely hated Dracula.
