As someone who does bladesmithing, yes, higher temps can burn steel, removing carbon content and making the blade more prone to chipping, fractures... the quench definitely determines how good your blade will turn out. Be thankful you don't have to worry about tempering the blade after the quench

The final number on cut rate is your damage. The first is your design's cut damage multiplied by your cut bonus (ie. 1.10 is a 10% bonus) then equals to your total cut damage. Your first dagger was 5 and your second was 11 dmg. Like others gave said, you needed greater than 20. Love the series, even the mistakes and frustration are entertaining.

If I may drae offer advice about quenching. If you drop the blade in the trough then reheat in the oven it helps with the quenching process. The barrel itself is a fickle mistress but quickly lower the blade in the water and pull out quickly it'll take about 3 drops but that should give you about an 80-90% everytime.

*TIPS* 1) once your ore melts it will start to degrade which is seen if you hover over it in the furnace 2) Top left in the weapon build tells you if your blades at dagger or one handed sword lenght ect, 3) weapon design only matters for the mold, once you've poured into the mold you can create a new blueprint and the bar will become whatever mold it was at the time of its pour 4) any bars or crafting items left over night i.e. a pommel thats not attached to anything will go to your chest beside the quench bucket 5) when pouring, pour the excess into the mold and get another pommel or gaurd dont waste, more money

. The % from when you bend it in design phase is only a % added to the final cut rate value, Its not that the blade is getting for ex 26% cut rate. Its the basevalue + whatever percentage you have. In your last dagger it had 8% and a basevalue of 10.8. 10.8 * 1.08 = 11,66. and then the bad overall quality probably takes some off it aswell. And the first dagger: 5.49 cut rate * 26% cut bonus from design 5.49 * 1.26 = 6.9

for alloys you need to put the ore that takes the longest to melt first then let it cool to solid then and the other ore but you want the temp to be as close together to keep the alloy quality as high as possible my highest quality alloy ore was at 98.85% but every time you heat it up the quality goes down.

I enjoy the episode but the whole less than 20 was getting to me especially as someone who's best subject was math. With greater than or less than, you look where the "mouth or opening" of the symbol is going. > 20 is greater than 20 cause the "mouth" is facing away from 20. < 20 is less than 20 cause the "mouth" is facing towards the 20. Or another way to put it is that the "mouth" is two lines while the point is one line so two is more than one so which ever number the two lines/mouth is pointing at is the bigger number. I'm sorry for pointing this out cause I'm sure a lot of people in the comments know this already, and was probably getting on to Drae like me. XD Plus, I think Drae even said to the guy, "Why would you want it to do less damage, when you're trying to kill someone?" So, that should have told Drae maybe it's not less than but greater than. lol

The longer it stays in the lower the quality gets. Thats why the first copper one was good quality and the second one was only in the one digit percent of quality and consider junk.

@drae so seeing you play this got me to buy it so your the one at fault here LOL So some stuff I noticed READ up on what ore melts at what temp, try to keep the temp within 100 of the stated melting point. The smelter will keep getting hotter if the cap/hook is fully closed, you can regulate temp by opening/closing. Alloys, look in the book to check which ore has the highest melting point and melt that one first then add the other ore. There is a mining area to the left of your shop when exiting, it respawns ore and coal daily, take advantage. Kids will clean up when you sleep, components of WIP weapon will be put in the chest by the ore storage, blades and blade bars on top of the wooden box by the wood, any assembled weapons left out will be trashed, so hang everything on racks before sleep. Hope this helps but do with this knowledge what you will.

what's funny is that Drae hasn't figured out that he can actually pocket the crucible to keep the ore quality from going down cause while it's in the air it losses ore quality until it hardens. and leaving it in the furnace makes the ore quality go away faster. the Kid clean up the shop and if the weapon is not in the sell or keep racks the kids will toss the weapons but pieces of weapons get stored in the chest and the blade bars/unfinished blades get put on the craft next to the wood racks. plus it's always good to use all the spare melted ore for extra parts to save ore later or to piece weapons together. but nothing sells better than gold stuff. i think he forgot that there was a mine he could go to get free ores from without spending any money Pro tip: you can reheat the blade to requench it. and Cut Rate, Peirce Rate and Smash Rate is Damage Rate for those types. Rate Bonus is a percentage added to the over all rate. (started playing this since mid may this game has always looked this good and it's still got alot of features coming)

try pouring the left over smelt into the trough. If this game is that realistic then it should save the left over smelt edit: well, ffs I was literally a fraction of a second off from when you plunged the crucible into the water... That timing was legit natures comedic side showing... Also, when quenching, at least in real life, when you want to get optimal hardness in metal you have to heat it to a specific temperature before quenching. You don't want to go full hardness because the metal will become brittle. There is a sweet spot for every metal and alloy. It's never just heat like the sun will go out of fashion then quench. This game seems really fun. Also also, the fuller type isn't the guard, it's the type of groove in the blade
@Shoe_Horn
@Shoe_Horn 2 күн бұрын
In regards to leaving metal in a crucible, yes. Metal can char, form bubbles, and even catch fire and burn if you leave it above its melting point for too long. The bubbles and char get into the metal and make it brittle and functionally useless. There is usually some level of waste slag involved, and it could theoretically be recycled, but it's more expensive than mining fresh ore. Metallurgy involves a tremendous amount of waste. I hope to see more accurate melting points for the various metals, eventually. Copper and aluminum are around the 2,000°C mark like it is in the game, but Iron alloys are closer to 6,000°. You should not be able to work iron at all with the equipment you have here.🤷‍♀️

Drae, < means less than, > means more than. The dude wanted a dagger with at least 20 cutting damage. Better luck next time! :)

Irl you can definitely burn metal if it's heated for too long, it kinda screws with the structure of it, to the point where it basically just crumbles

Cut Rate is different from Cut Rate Bonus. Cut rate on the left side of the screen. The symbol is GREATER than or Equal to 20.

You're making junk because you're leaving your Ore to basically burn in the Smelter.

somebody told him already, that pot literally shows the percentage of ore quality inside?

You don't wan to leave the crucible bucket on the hook in the forge, it degrades the quality of the molten ore the whole time. I take mine out and drop it into the trough to cool it back to solid. You also want to pay attention to the melting points of each metal in your blacksmithing book.
