Descenders was amazing because you started runs like a roguelike. I learned quickly have to even bike backwards to rack up points to get skills. The important question is how are the crash mechanics? Are they still good? Because in town I liked to just crash into things for the fun of it.

The med station is probably the same as descenders Where you get a bonus health just for finishing the level. So if you do the optional objective, you get 2 bonus healths
