Always a great episode. Hope that the rest of teams draft grades will be discussed later this week. Agree that Bears should’ve used the 9th overall pick for a pass rusher.

It seems that every year the Eagles win the draft. Now do they have the coaches to get them back to the NFC Championship?

Good point. They stole Carter in the last draft. Blew my mind that so many teams didn’t take time to get to know the kid & realize that he didn’t have character issues. 2 seasons ago they took a Six Back offense to the Super Bowl before losing their coordinators which led to a fast playoff exit. But there’s a reason draftniks love Howie. 👍

@@r.williamcomm7693 indeed, the media draft analysts love Howie because takes the popular picks. He's smart though about moving up and down.

@@MrDavidknigge Agree I was impressed with him taking Carter last year. I believe that the Bears & Falcons both should’ve been looking for pass rushers instead of a WR for Bears & QB for Falcons. It’s difficult to find a good “3 technique” & edge rushers don’t grow on trees either. IMHO good WR’s can be found in later rounds & a QB who won’t start until year 4 can also be selected in later rounds. QB sacks & hurries can get a defense off the field & in today’s NFL the best defenses are the ones that play the least amount of time. The longer a defense is on the field the closer to the dam breaking or being figured out. But we shall see this season of those teams have enough pass rush to win games. Good luck this season. My Steelers will be irrelevant until we get a real QB who can run a real NFL offense. 🍀👍

@@r.williamcomm7693 do you think Fields could be that QB? I think he was a smart gamble. It will be interesting to see what Tomlin does with him.

@@MrDavidknigge Agree. It’s going to be interesting. Tomlin will tell him what he needs to do & Fields has to listen if he wants to have a chance to start. I’m hoping that Fields sits for most of this season & learns the offense that Russ runs so that he’s ready to play next season. He’s going to have to really work on his mechanics, especially footwork so that he’s consistently accurate. Honestly I’m concerned that he didn’t put in the work he should have to become the passer possible. He’s had 3 NFL seasons with 2 offseasons where he should’ve improved greatly. But yes, I’d love to see him become the man. There’s a video of Tom Brady throwing the ball into a jugs machine so perfectly that it jams the spinning wheels. That’s the kind of ball placement that separates NFL QBs. It’s the difference between 2 yards after the catch & 10 or more yards after the catch. There’s so many things that happen beyond a QBs control. But when I see a QB with more than one season who still hasn’t perfected accuracy it concerns me because he’s not even controlling what’s within his control. I hope Fields uses this opportunity to make himself much better.

Minn would have drafted Penix if they resigned cousins. They wanted to get him over JJ and they were trying to get up to him. Would we all be shredding Minn if they made that pick?

The Harbaugh Chargers could have gotten Minnesota's 2 first round picks for Herbert if they had selected JJ McCarthy. Plus they would have had a rookie QB contract to build their roster in free agency. If Harbaugh had faith in JJ, why didn't he make that happen?

Either he doesn't trust Jj like he says, or the GM or someone above didn't want to do it.

@@willg4289 of course, but there are work around. For instance, Herbert could have restructured. But regardless, they would then have had a rookie contract to offset the dead cap hit.

No college QB is the finished project if his name isn’t Dan Marino. Even John Elway had a lot to learn. So if Harbaugh traded away the franchise QB it’s getting off on the wrong foot with fans plus every great Herbert performance for another team can bring down Chargers morale & be used against Harbaugh. But at the end of the day, the only way to know if a college QB is going to become a franchise QB quickly is to play him. Even the best prospect could turn out to be a QB who just can’t adjust to the speed of the NFL game. So trading away a true franchise QB is a huge risk. Even if JJ was good in his rookie season that’s not good enough for a team that has playoff talent like the Chargers. Harbaugh being loyal to his college QB doesn’t mean that he should throw away his franchise QB. His duty is to the team.
