I think a draw would’ve been a good decision. Volk landed more strikes. Islam landed the td’s. Islam had more control time though he didn’t do much with it. Look at the end of the round 2 Islam landed clear heavy strikes on Volk and he even got a good takedown midway of the round and the knockdown people are talking about in the second round was not a knockdown as the puch which supposedly KD Islam didn't even landed it was very close but did not landed. And thus round 2 clearly was won by Islam. Round 3 is the closest round of all but Islam landed some heavy strikes in that round the elbow Islam landed was landed in this very round and the grappling as well in the round by Islam helped him get this round as well. But as John Anik said "you gave 2nd round to Islam, and so human in me wants to give 3rd to Volk" but this was very close round and Islam did just enough to edge this round. I think 3-2 is clear if not 4-1 for Islam.

I watched 3 times and came to a conclusion that Islam Makhachev won the fight for 100%! Volk just dominated the last minute of the 5th round, but he didn't Ko'd Islam and submitted. I rewatched it twice and feel it’s very clear that Islam won rounds 1, 2 and 4 and Alex won rounds 3 and of course round 5. Also, Islam was winning round 5 until Volk dropped him and mounted him. But Islam managed to stay safe on bottom mostly eating body shots. He wasn’t nearly knocked out tho yes of course he was exhausted and hurt. No way is it a 10-8 round. It was the last minute and the only minute of fight in which Alex was dominant. Islam won the fight but Alex didn’t lose anything. Volk’s cardio is next level.

What a great fight! I'm not a professional judge by any means but I scored it for Islam but can see how it can be scored for Volk. I'm a big fan of them both! Volk has fought the top guys in his division, 5 round fights plenty of times and this improved his skills greatly. Islam struggled getting fights and ended up getting last minute matches. He beat the p4p 3 charles and made it look fairly easy. Then calls out the p4p1 volk and goes 5 rounds first time. Both fighter put on a clinic and shows how tough each other are. Shame Islam isn't getting enough credit and Dan hooker making up lies

Kenny is right about the back versus the mount. If you want to do big damage, go to the mount. If you want the RNC, go to the back. My problem with BJJ in MMA is the body triangle on the back. I think it's lazy BJJ and limits what you can actually do there. Hooks take way more practice but are way more useful. If anything, you can use one leg to land heel strikes to the body/liver. Switch to an armbar. Let them think they are escaping and put them in an head-and-arm guillotine. Use one leg to trap an arm making the hand fighting easier. I could go on and on. But the key is the time it takes to learn control with the hooks versus how easy it is to put in that body triangle and just forget your legs completely. These guys have so much to train and have to prioritize so its understandable why they don't work on BJJ a lot. It's complex.

Also Volks conduct since the day has been abysmal, claiming he thought he won the fight and that he we would destroy Islam at featherweight. This is conduct unbecoming.

That's actually not true. The commission goes by the same set of rules whether it's a championship fight or not. They are supposed to anyways. Either way I had Islam winning even though it was close.
