Andrés Gelves crystal Labeija is the mother of it all. Darling!!! There would be no RuPaul if it wasn't for Crystal Labeija. Drag owes her alot.
@devontehuntley62743 жыл бұрын
@@matthewharjo7512 Yet no one knows when she was born or the exact time of her death. Her death year is listed as 1982, but what about the month and day? And a source claims she was still alive by 1993! Like what is the truth here? What was her name before doing drag because I'm sure it wasn't Crystal. There's quite a lot about her we don't know and that's not good when she's suppose to be the matriarch of this whole drag thing and it's like she just time traveled her way to the 1960s and lived for 15 years and then time traveled her way back to where she came from. Pepper Labieja didn't even give much on her which is odd. It's like she sort of didn't even exist.

@@devontehuntley6274 Crystal was trans (to my knowledge) so I think it may be disrespectful to acknowledge her as anyone else but Crystal, regardless of her name at birth. I would like to know more about her death and exact date.... more about her in general, like her family and ethnic background.
@devontehuntley62743 жыл бұрын
@@MermaidBigDrip Who cares? She wasn't always Crystal and I'd like to know what her upbringing was that led her to the drag queen she'd become. That's not something to keep secret.

@@devontehuntley6274 there are many people who transition and want to be known as who they are, not who they were assigned to be as birth. I love to see the old school memorialized. Reminds me of some of my mom's friends that used to come over & hang out at the house. They looooved me, the little dervish running around the house demanding everyone "Look what I an do! Watch me! Watch me!" They ate it up & gave me performance tips = ) My mom's friend Bobby even helped me with my Wonder Woman Halloween costume in 1978, then I watched him paint for his before he & mom went out to a party. Even though this was South Florida, it wasn't always very hospitable during those times but they didn't care. Thanks Jaymes, for showcasing the pomp & circumstance of a magical facet of life!

Something about the body Dorian Corey kept makes her all the more fascinating, right? It adds a layer of mystery to this flamboyant and exciting character that makes you realise how you know nothing about her.
@ABC-cy6ve6 жыл бұрын
Jalen Lee After Dorian Corey died at 56 of aids related complications in 1993, a friend, who had helped care for her in her last years, was going to sell a few garments to some people to make money. While searching through the closet, they found a mummified body that was shot in the head and estimated to have been dead for 15-20 years. It was the body of Robert "Bobby" Wobley, a convicted rapist who had spent 3 years in prison and was estranged from his family. Three major theories surround the incident; one that Bobby had attempted to rape, rob or attack her (she lived in a violent area; during the Paris is Burning interviews, Jennie Livingston said she could hear guns being fired on numerous occasions), that she was concealing the body for a friend (most people said there was no way she could have killed someone and she moved after the death, so she would've had to transport the heavy, mummified body over 10 blocks, which isn't impossible because it was in a trunk, wrapped in multiple layers and covered in baking soda) or the most common theory, is that they were secret lovers and Bobby beat her viciously. Dorian Corey wrote a story that seemed autobiographical, which included a section about a "straight" man, abusing and forcing a drag queen to get breast implants against their will (Dorian Corey openly stated on Joan Rivers she regretted getting the procedure done). The story stated that the drag queen had to shoot the man in self defense because he would drink and get aggressive due to the shame he felt about being attracted to a drag queen and wanted the drag queen to get gender reassignment surgery, against the drag queens wishes. Also, Bobby's brother claimed that Bobby showed up one time, wasted, yelling about someone named Dorian Corey. No one knows what truly happened, but it proves how much of a mystery Dorian Corey was, even to her closest friends. This is my understanding of the events that occurred, if I got anything wrong, please correct me and my intention is not to put Dorian Corey in a poor light, but instead show the secrecy behind the performer and show how sad it is that someone in her situation wouldn't have been safe seeking the assistance of law enforcement, no matter how things went down.
