The second run was possibly the maddest drag race. The first one was pretty good too.

Glad you enjoyed the Sinclair C5 :) Car Vs quadricycle Vs 37 year old tricycle. It was always going to lose but it's so much fun to ride and makes more sense today than it did at the time!

The Podbike is a much better modern take on the Sinclair C5.

And with modern battery upgrades they can do better on range too.
@ianng46332 жыл бұрын
You can activate the sport mode of the Sinclair by getting out of it and start running, you'd probably finish the quarter mile a lot faster than 68 seconds.

If the Ami could do 40mph and go up hills with ease, a range of 60miles then I'd probably have one at the same price. I think the current design would fail the elk test though and probably why it's so limited

I do remember a couple of ‘rich’ kids had a C5 when they where launched but outside of that summer they where never seen again (the C5 that is not the kids who had them, they weren’t injured 🤕 in the fun 🤦🏻♂️). The Ami is so cute and will be 🤞 the logical progression of the Boris Bike, now just to wait for a rental company to get behind the concept 🤷🏻♂️

I like the Ami,it's kind of fun for a city centre or town environment but if they ever venture onto A or B roads semi rural then there will be a big queue behind them.
@robbrowne7625 Жыл бұрын
I don't know why but I really find myself really wanting a C5. It just looks like so much fun. More than an ebike and cheaper than an ebike too. RIP Clive... a genius before his time

Absolutely no 16 year old should be allowed to drive anything like that Citroen on UK roads. As for the C5. I remember soon after they were launched seeing one, and that's the only one I've ever seen on roads, with the rider very red faced and peddling like mad as I cycled past him.

the Mahindra E2O shouldn't cost more than €8,300 EUR . . . otherwise it's just not a viable buy for the customer . . .
@MrFlazz992 жыл бұрын
Just - NO. In fairness, the Ami might appeal to typical cashed-up urban (London) trendies, but looking back in 37 years' time it will be the Sinclair C5 of the 2020s (and the C5 was only loved by the trendies back in its day, so nothing changes). Save thousands - just avoid electric power altogether. Revolutionary urban transport already exists - it's called a bus (or for the wealthy it's called an Uber) - no parking worries because it just goes away after you've used it and no worries about maintenance, battery charging or resale values either. I'm amazed that it's been overlooked for all this time....
@ianhamer44942 жыл бұрын
Interesting video, Ami I like, but not enough to buy one, it is just to primitive for the UK, cannot do 30mph, crap heating system and in some parts of the country we live on hills.
@Musketeer0092 жыл бұрын
Remember, back in 2016, batteries cost an arm and a leg. Probably why the Mahindra was so expensive even though build quality was cheap and nasty.
@clanmac662 жыл бұрын
Other than price, the E2O and C5 make more sense today. Better charging and batteries. AMI is is just too slow.
@peternorman25632 жыл бұрын
You are obviously missing the point of these cars, Who in this section of transport needs a race down a runway. Having just returned from France I met a lady in Ie Touquet with the €6,000 Ami and she confirmed it was a perfect fit for town use. End Of.
@cubworx73972 жыл бұрын
Absolutely, especially given the average speed in cities and towns is less than 28mph and parking is at a premium. Also on an island such as Shetland, for example, this is perfect. (I've never been to Shetland - but assuming it isn't too hilly this would suit small distances, much like the mini-moke does)
@lozetchells91642 жыл бұрын
Should've added an eMTB into the lineup. It'd probably have beaten the lot up to 16mph, and I know which I'd rather have...
@derelictdogma2 жыл бұрын
most ebikes in general with a competent rider would smoke these up until 20-30mph, whatever the bike is limited to or the gear ratio for the pedals maxes out at the custom made ebikes are doing freeway speed nowadays, and make more torque than these do while weighing 1/10th of them
@stevemccormack99482 жыл бұрын
Actually, I think the Ami is a good formula. In terms of utility, price, everything. Worth owning. Car makers should have offered this format decades ago - as in the bubble car of old. Why did they abandon it? The Renault Twizy should also made available to all. It was a bit pricey but a perfect formula for the real world.

Whilst I take my hat off to Citroën for trying... I think the Dacia EV or the Chinese cheap EV's will sell. But the Ami tips over too easily and is way too slow at just 28mph. The Indian car is almost as expensive as the Renault Zoe.... Which is a far superior car.

Interesting review, let’s face it ….all these vehicles are flawed and rubbish . A vw up or Suzuki ignis are so much better in every way, the government should have promoted electric cars but also kept a low cc class of petrol cars similar to kei cars in Japan. What families can afford the prices of £20k plus for basic 4 door electric cars ? The car was meant to offer mobility for the masses and the future is mobility for the wealthy. Also someone who lives in a city like London ass the time where there is good public transport would not need or buy the ami as when they want to do a longer journey the vehicle is too slow and too small. Just my opinion

Ah yes. The bicycle that killed the british computer industry - The not-genius clive sinclair's C5. Sir Clive was very, very good at cutting corners, that's all. Not to be negative about him, other devices he championed revolutionised the industry they were in. His digital calculator, his cheap computers, his pocket TV. The C5.... not so much. I just take issue with people calling Sir Clive a genius when he wasn't, he was just a corner cutter.

A Citroen 2CV6 has a similar performance to the Mahindra... but much more fun and cheaper. Can imagine an Ami electric be in production for 42 years like the 2CV? I have driven a Sinclair C5... in Bristol where a friend had 2 of them. Fun but feeble performance and range... Hills were a killer...

these small electric vehicles will always have an issue with too higher price , the AMI is priced right ,also the lease at £2500 down and £19.99 a month is a brilliant idea ,and will get people to at least give it a go ,i really think the AMI has a future with young people to customise and make their own "like the buggy version" , a bigger battery would be great ,and im sure some one will make it go a little faster, i'l admit id love to give it a long test ,if anybody want to loan me one
