Awesome slides! There is a picture of my cousins black 34 Ford 5 window coupe towards the end of the video. Year was 1967. Looks like the shot was taken at Muncie Dragway. Could have been the week before Indy. Car ran under the name Lutz & Lutz for my cousin and uncle. We ran later that week at Indy in C/G. We lost first round on Sunday to the Sour Grapes 41 Willys also in this video. We broke a pinion gear and that was all she wrote!

I didn't know Fred Hurst ran a Willys, the first I remember of him was a Barracuda A/G.

At 7:34; I also remember, in the 60's before they started securing blowers, when someone sneezed a blower in a BIG way, those things would launch off the block ~ sometimes 50 feet in the air. Never saw anyone hit by one but I did see a few drivers who nearly lost their heads!

They used to show a video at the beginning of Diamond P videos of (I think) Ed McCulluch burping a blower off the engine and it just lands on the hood. The car didn't move a foot.

At 8:54 the green Austin looks very close to Norm Cowdry's blown 327". B&M hydro lifted the wheels @ 3rd gear. Ran ~ 160 mph. One of my West Coast faves. Semper Fi.

By 1968 the strongest AA/GS cars in the country were out of SoCal. Shores & Hess and Kohler Brothers were kicking everyone's butt with their big block Chevy powered Anglias and the top AA/FA were also out of SoCal (Wild Willy's Winged Express and the Chevy powered Mondello & Matsubara). I grew up in SoCal, attended my first drag race @ Lions in March 1963 and until I was drafted (and off to Nam) in 1969, I lived at Lions, Irwindale, OCIR, Pomona (for the "Go West") and Famosa (Bakersfield).
