I love how everyone thinks a different version of Dragapult is the best. Very interesting deck building problem

You identified a pretty glaring weakness with Bolt Ogerpon in that first game. It struggles against single prize pokemon. That opponent had teched in baby Sandy Shocks to mitigate the LZ matchup, but that left them open against Rad Zard. That's been the interesting thing about trying to decide on techs, the other options also have weak spots (Slither Wing and Cornerstone Ogerpon)

I like the oger the most but he’s so hard to put energy on

I think TM Devo should be in Dragapult regardless of the build as a one-off. You're already playing Arven, so you can search it easily whenever you need it, and with all the damage counter placement running, one could easily get a massive prize advantage. Obviously, it all depends on the matchup, of course.

Hell yeah this is the stuff I've been excited to see! I have a fairly close list myself so far. Still only played maybe 30-40 games with the deck but I 100% agree on the 2 Counter Catcher. I have won too many games already just from seeing that card often enough, I could never go down to 1 and if you prize that 1 I think the comeback potential is seriously lowered. Can't ever see myself going to 1 here. I've only recently swapped over to Rad Zard but I think I already prefer it just because Alakazam just feels a bit too situational and clunky for its benefits. I open with it fairly often and I don't fancy running Switch or whatever, and would rather save my Scoop Up and Turo's for a big tempo play. Also just think having the big 1 prize attacker that can OHKO stuff like Raging Bolt, Moon, Ogrepon, whatever is super useful and super clutch, esp as you said you can potentially loop it with Super Rod and even cheat it earlier with Xatu. Tried Reset Stamp at first, never seemed to be online when I needed it or have any real impact. Like Zard with likely have Pidgeot setup when it swings, Chien Pao will have Bib etc.. With Scoop Up you are getting guaranteed big value and it just swings games more consistently I feel. Also denying your two prizers is nice. I've kinda gotten a bit cheeky with Candy and I've dropped it to 1, just because it feels like there's only 1 or 2 turns where its like "if I candy I have a huge play" so I just sorta rely on Arven for that, and you still don't lose if you don't find the Candy that turn. Though I think more than that is that I just find the deck loses and does nothing without the Drakloaks so I'm more leaning into just establishing a stronger board and finding combo pieces like Energy/Vessels, Evo lines and Counter Catchers. Also loving Defiance Band since I popped it in the other day, is almost always online and almost always has an impact on your math because of how efficient the damage counter dropping is.

I think the best way to play it barring lost zone (I haven't tried that yet) is using the charizard ex but cutting the drakloak count to 1 and running a 2-2 line of bidoof bibarael engine, I have beaten everything and consistently got my turn 2 attacks in with either dragapult ex or charizard ex, i feel like Toard is going to build a similar deck at some point and just refine it a bit more. This is the list that I am playing, I will try Rad Alakazam and prime catcher instead of Rad Zard, Scoop Up Cyclone as I am still refining: Pokémon: 10 1 Rotom V LOR 58 1 Bibarel PR-SW 188 2 Charizard ex OBF 228 4 Dreepy TWM 128 1 Bibarel BRS 121 2 Charmander MEW 4 PH 1 Drakloak TWM 129 PH 1 Radiant Charizard CRZ 20 2 Bidoof CRZ 111 3 Dragapult ex TWM 130 Trainer: 25 1 Boss's Orders RCL 189 1 Hisuian Heavy Ball ASR 146 1 Lost Vacuum LOR 217 1 Scoop Up Cyclone TWM 162 1 Super Rod PAL 276 1 Nest Ball PAF 84 1 Forest Seal Stone SIT 156 1 Enhanced Hammer TWM 148 PH 2 Ultra Ball PAF 91 2 Arven PAF 235 2 Iono PAF 237 2 Buddy-Buddy Poffin TEF 144 PH 2 Ultra Ball PAF 91 PH 1 Boss's Orders PAL 248 1 Iono PAL 269 1 Arven SVI 235 1 Defiance Band SVI 169 2 Counter Catcher PAR 264 3 Rare Candy PAF 89 PH 1 Rescue Board TEF 159 PH 1 Nest Ball PAF 84 PH 2 Buddy-Buddy Poffin TEF 144 1 Arven SVI 249 1 Rare Candy SVI 191 1 Earthen Vessel PAR 163 Energy: 3 4 Basic {R} Energy SVE 2 3 Basic {P} Energy SVE 5 1 Basic {R} Energy SVE 2 PH Total Cards: 60

I tried out Rad Zard after watching this video and I 100% agree with what you said in the last game, it's a revelation and I can't believe I used to play this deck without it. Zard was my favortie part of the LZ build and it transitions over to the Xatu build perfectly. Cheers for another great video.

Have you ever considered going down to one Candy like some Gardy decks? Most of the time you would want to evolve via Drakloak anyways right?
@OmniPoke5 ай бұрын
Possibly, but sometimes the 1 energy 70 poke is a nice setup too
@LunaDachi5 ай бұрын
Really love the rad Zard since Alakazam hasn’t felt particularly special any time I have it benched or use it for a single prize attacker. The first game really changed the way I view the Ogerpon/Bolt MU and Chien-Pao Baxcalibur MU
@arifridman3145 ай бұрын
Thoughts on legacy energy in bolt? Gives you a one prize attacker and can meet either energy type. Finding its an issue but ive gone through my whole deck in most games so it shouldn’t be too hard to find.

Pretty cool concept! A lot of decks will be running the Sinnoh or e hammer though because of Lugia

I like the iono in miraidon list. It’s definitely better than research in the deck. It’s really unfortunate that they didn’t get heavy baton for hands and you got every single card you needed off his iono. 😫 loved the video. Rad zard is definitely better than alakazam in the deck.

love this build. is there another single prizer worth running if zard is prized or just scoop and go to game 2 against these big damage decks?

thoughts on unfair stamp over scoop up cyclone? the latter never came up too much in these m/us where board wouldn’t have functioned the same. from my testing scoop up is busted in mirror but not a lot else, whereas stamp against aggressive archetypes off a t2 arven is a brick wall in their face a lot of the time
@OmniPoke5 ай бұрын
Cyclones great into mirror zard and gardi and can be useful against aggro at just clearing away Vs even, unfair is a broken card too but I’d want to make some space for turo or collapsed to fit it in!

So just curious I have thought about teching in a 1 1 Rabsca line with tm evolution in Charizard so that if you go second you can end your board with Rabsca and a stage 1 of your choosing. Would that be a necessary/good counter to Dragapult ex or is that not worth it?

I think you need blower or the stadium that blocks tools for the bolt matchup imo, I’d drop a board for it since even with rad zard charm stops the ohko.

without zard or another 1 prize option i dont know how this deck functions tbh, you always start behind and need something to offset the prize race
@dillonryan50395 ай бұрын
I've found that the deck does that itself by doing things like easily taking 4 prize turns while being the tankiest thing in the format

Started using RadZard in my list and it really puts in work. In the process, I also learned that you can't use Combustion blast 2 turns in a row, RadZard has a 3 energy retreat cost, and if Iron Hands has a DTE attached, Arm Press won't OHKO RadZard.

Turn 2 vs the ancient ogrepon deck in game 1 you could have gotten a dragapult if you promoted the dreepy with the energy, then used arven for candy seal stone, searched draga with seal stone and evolved with candy, and then set up the rest as usual
@EggsForDessert5 ай бұрын
This deck is a headache to pilot and it just doesn’t have enough tempo. Even Zard can start hitting 180/230 turn two but the ability to get turn 2 attack with this deck is so limited. It that respect I feel it plays more like gardy but gardy has much better one prize attackers than this deck.
