Dragging the Shutter: Long Exposures on Fuji Acros 100

In this video I shoot some long exposures around Hyde Park/Regents St on Fujifilm Acros 100

Small tip for Hasselblad users: If you accidentally release the shutter on the wrong speed, you can insert the darkslide, remove the film back, and then cock the shutter. You get a double exposure that way, but it won't matter if the first exposure is just black. Also works if you want multiple exposures, of course.

One thing I noticed about Acros is how slick the backing paper is. I managed to fog the first frame with how quickly it unrolled. Perhaps I'm too used to Kodak

Love the authenticity of the video...translating what’s envisioned in the mind to film can be frustrating, to say the least. For inspiration, check out Alexey Titarenko’s work. He focuses on long exposures (almost exclusively) in Russia’s metro. Maybe it’ll help inspire your next outing ☺️

Have you considered using an umbrella over you and camera during long exposure in the rain?

I probably should but usually I’ll just go as far as leaning over it with my coat. I normally use both hands for setup (e.g. camera onto tripod or lee filter holder onto Bay60) so I’d have to keep popping up the umbrella then stowing it.

Would you say a Hasselblad is harder to use than 35mm? I know all the stuff there is to know about exposure, I’m just wondering if it’s worth waiting to get into.

Slightly less forgiving due to only getting 12 shots per roll but exactly the same in all other regards.

I have a portra 400 back a black and white back (which I bought a black A12 for) and a back that I keep empty most of the time but often shoot provia in. It’s nice to be able to switch out backs and getting something like provia ‘stuck’ in my Pentax 67 was one of the main reasons I switched systems

Ive been considering picking up a 21mm voigtlander for my M3, id really like to see a video on that focal length personally. Also I've been really enjoying your videos lately, good to see you posting again!

You lad load your film at before a shoot or if you have to load on location. Place the roll in it's proper place then tare off paper less chance for mishaps butter finger dropping the roll or exposing the film after the tare fumbling from looking at your procedure it will happen just sooner or later. I send many assistants home after 2 warnings
