Great truck! The exhaust really sounds good. I would definitely get some lower gears next. 3.73 cruises fine for me and I don't think 4.10 would be bad at all unless you do a lot of high speed driving. Something like a Truck Norris cam would go well with the gear. I swapped my factory LTZ 20s (80 lb each) for lightweight 17 x 9s and 245/60-17 (54 lb each) and the seat of the pants difference was impressive. Something interesting to test....
@whiplashtv2022 Жыл бұрын
Thanks, and I agree that this truck needs gears badly. That is a great swap and reducing rotational weight is huge! Many people don’t pay attention to that. I actually did a Draggy 1/4 mile test on rotating weight and I saved around 96lbs if I remember correctly. The video of that is here on the channel!!! Let me know what you think of the test.
@mumbols Жыл бұрын
My exhaust is true duel but I have cats. I have no h pipe or x pipe. It is true header back with cats, to drag mufflers after cat and a flow monster at rear arch of frame. Drops off like you have it right before axle. Almost equal length pipes. 12inch to short on passenger side to short witch ant to bad. I have a 228r tsp 600/600 mild ported heads and duel valve spring reat off the good stuff for better rpm up top.The sound is almost the same but that drone is what I was killing. I have pacesetters long tubes an vband clamps. Id recomend v band clamps. Had the ones you using and every couple days or other weekend had to check them. I like the break down on videos though I like the truck. I have a extendo cab though she a little more heavy but I like the more to love.
@whiplashtv2022 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. An x pipe actually helps to kill drone. I highly suggest adding one to your system. V band can be good, but they can leak at times too. I have had the best luck with the stepped clamps.

@whiplashtv2022 My engine has just over 213xxx miles, when I install the cam should I do anything else in regards to upgrades or will I be okay? The engines runs great atm
@whiplashtv202211 ай бұрын
@@easttnrailray5685 Excellent question. I am not really worried about high mileage bottom ends. I do suggest doing a new oil pump such as the one listed in the link below 👇🏻 to help extend it’s life. Also a huge thing that is over looked is milling the heads for more compression! I am not sure what cam you have selected, but you usually have room to mill .035” off of the head in most cases. That helps the responsiveness of the engine in a big way and is cheap hp! Also make sure that you have a good instake such as the K&N shown here on the channel. I can get you a link to it if you need it. If your budget has more money after what I have mentioned already, then do the TBSS/NNBS intake and tb swap when you do the cam.
@easttnrailray568511 ай бұрын
@whiplashtv2022 Texas speed stage 2 cam , the truck already has the AirRaid cold air intake. I am looking at Spelab headers (cheap low budget) headers, but it comes with a kit under $400 with all of the piping included. How about valve springs? The is two owners and was regularly serviced when needed
@whiplashtv202211 ай бұрын
@easttnrailray5685 don’t go cheaper than Speed Engineering. Spelab is very poorly made and the collectors are not 3”! You will be down on hp compared to Speed Engineering if you go Spelab. If it is the Texas Speed 212/218 .550 lift cam then go with some good beehive single springs. If it is .600 lift then you would need .625 beehive springs or a dual spring kit for that higher lift. Definitely mill the heads.

The Summit stg 4 Pro LS (sum-8709R1) would be a badass cam for your setup. It’s about the largest cam for the 5.3L with the stock valve to piston clearance.
@whiplashtv20222 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the suggestion, but I am not a big fan of the Summit cams. The Stage 4 Pro LS Cam 238/246 113+3, .625/.605 Lift would make this truck and absolute dog on bottom end. I would need a 4000 stall and 4.10 gear minimum just to make it feel alive and compression ratios needs to be bumped up badly on the LM7. My G8 with it’s 221/229 .558/.548 111lsa is a great showing of the fact fact that it doesn’t take a BIG cam to go fast and get great performance. It has went 11.3 at 120mph in the 1/4 mile. Only .3 from 10’s in the 1/4 mile with a small low lift cam. People are always blown away when I tell them the size of that cam and how fast it has been.
@donotresuscitatechannel72572 жыл бұрын
I missed the part when you mentioned what gears you have, yeah you for sure would need some 4.10’s or at least 3.73. But I hear you though, if that’s just not your goals. Nice truck. I’m a singlecab shortbed 4 life guy.
@whiplashtv20222 жыл бұрын
@@donotresuscitatechannel7257 I have 3.23 currently and want to do 3.73s. I am running a tire that is just over 29” tall so 4.10 gear would be too much for Interstate driving that I do often. They claim that Summit racing cam to pull past 7,000rpm and have a powerband of 3,500-7,000rpm. I would prefer a cam that has a powerband of 2,500-6,700rpm with a compression ratio of 11.1:1 minimum and it would perform very well.
@trailerparkcryptoking5213 Жыл бұрын
@@whiplashtv2022 I put 4.10’s in a 2004 F150 I had back in the day and would set the cruise control at 100 mph on I10 between San Antonio & Ft Stockton and wasn’t over revving it. I wished I would have went 4.56. It was a stock 5.4 three valve with exhaust and gears running 14.9 at Hennesey’s track in Sealy, supercab, heavy hard bed cover with 300 lbs of junk in the back and a full tank of gas....

I have 3.73 gears in my truck and it drives pretty decently for a severely underpowered worn out 4.8 with 420K+ on er and I get 13.9L per 100K going 110, I find myself really wishing for 4.56's though, I imagine you could drop a second off of the quarter with 4.10 gears if you don't mind more rpms on the highway, short gears paired with a cam and stall work really well
