This is the first Dragnet episode I saw as a kid. Watched it with my grandfather.

Howard Culver as the psychiatrist was simply ridiculous but glad he took on the role along with the 900 others he took on as part of Jack's version of the Mercury Theater.

Jill Banner, who played Shirley Lawson, was unfortunately killed by a drunk driver in 1982 at the age of 35. R.I.P.

I have seen many Dragnet episodes in different series. This episode with it's mystery is far more creative than any other I have seen.

Today an adult found in this situation has committed a felony.

That is what I am thinking too. Using another's identification. Enrolling in high school, getting involved with minors, etc.

Things were much simpler back then. When someone did that the authorities didn't look at it as the reason for it being a worst case scenario. I'm sure today its a felony because they are assuming the person did it because they want to diddle high school kids not as some mentally struggling 20 something that just lost their dad and trying to return to an easier time when life wasn't so hard. Nobody can do anything today with innocent reasons behind it. Every action someone does is nefarious. It was actually really tough to catch a felony back then when you were under 25. They would give you chance after chance so you would have a clean record when you became a responsible adult. Now they can't wait to get you into the system and on probation. It's sad. My brother for example went out with a couple buddies when he was 17 and played trash day. That is where you drive by a garbage can then the passenger picks it up then the driver accelerates to about 20 then the passenger launches the can into a mailbox. Definitely not nice and worth some kind of punishment. They gave all 3 of them multiple felonies. He couldn't go into the army and still has trouble getting a job and he is almost 30. It really is stupid how hard the system comes down on kids today. Violent offenses I understand completely but something like what my brother did? Come on...

This is both a sad and a very common occurrence. Shirley suffered a psychotic break because of built up stress in her life and this was the result. Thankfully her encounter with Joe Friday and Bill Gannon gave her a lesson in perspective and she decided to return to college.

It has to be a true story. No one could make up such a weird story. Jill Banner was in two other Dragnet. I one called "Th E Hammer", she played the wife of a murderer and wasn't much better. In the other she also played a friend of the murderer, A college student. I think it was in the fourth season, as well.
@jwavada Жыл бұрын
I remember both episodes. The first one she was Camille Gerhardt Tosca, and she had a really crappy attitude. The latter one was the second episode of the 4th season; she was Nancy Morton, who had a better disposition than Camille did.

One more for Jill Banner. The episode "The Senior Citizen". She plays the prostitute who has a glass of water at the crime scene who confessed to a murder occurring in an apartment house managed by a former Chicago detective(played by Burt Mustin)
