Dragon 2023!

Come and join me and 40+ other mad fools competing in this year's Dragon Hike & Fly race which was held in the beautiful Black Mountains arena on 13th/14th May. It's a two day event which I won back in 2019, but I have to say, many of the pilots entering now are SOOOO strong on the ground that for old farts like me (actually I think I was the only old fart!) it's pretty difficult to be competitive unless the conditions are good for flying...
Anyway, grab a coffee or a beer and enjoy this gruelling event vicariously - definitely the best way!!!

Bloody Brilliant Tim - raw, up close & personal (or should that be DOWN close & personal in view of the conditions!) gritty scratching & determination, slogging your guts out (literally) Welsh Brecon time after time to cover 47 exhausting km - & cracking on to the end.... Great to see your race. I’m looking forward to next year. I’m going to go for the most direct route and always go for the nearest peak or ridge to maximise the time under the wing after watching a few other vids.

Is your vario sound coming from your XCtracer ? if so, what are the shorts clicks after the vario stops climbing, similar to what is heard on the Skytrax ? is that just zero's ?

Yes, it’s from the XCTracer. I have a sound profile that tries to mimic my old Flymaster’s “growl” - it kicks in between -1 and 0 to indicate that you’re in rising air, just not strong enough to make me actually go up!
