I am a massive Dragon Age fan. I've played all the games (plus dlcs) read all the books and comics and watched the anime. However I am not sure how I feel about a Netflix show featuring all new characters also seeing Tevinter a place we've never actually seen in game (only a few clips from a DA4 teaser trailer) I hope Bioware had more of a hand in this than Netflix in putting this together and it captures the true essence of Dragon Age especially since this will be a lot of peoples introduction into the DA world.

As a Dragon Age fan, I'm happy for this series, but the Trailer didn't convince me, it looks very generic. Above all at the beginning you see a "generic" magic circle from which a pink magic comes out, and in Dragon Age there have never been these symbols that are instead used in many fantasy anime. Lets hope it is good.

While I'm glad to see a show for dragon age. I can't help but to think, this trailer could have the DnD, pathfinder, or any fantasy series logo slapped onto it and it wouldn't look out of place. I can only hope we get something good out of this, but the trailer doesn't feel like dragon age, or rather it doesn't reference enough dragon age stuff to feel like dragon age.

i agree with this so much! like i can't feel any dark fantasy vibes. i also think that anime style and anime tropes simply wouldn't fit narrative that Dragon Age often presents and just dragon age mood at all. i expect this to be another game-based anime and kinda meeh. like, not bad, but not good or amazing. imo they should've done the animation like arcane, lsr, into the spiderverse. something along these. or maybe a live series. oorr maybe something new entirely with a new style. i dont know just this choice doesn't fit dragon age imho. but again, we'll see what this show will have to offer!

It may be entirely me, but I question the generic art style choice, music, and general mood, which do not bring me that DA atmosphere. I would not have been able to recognize that this is a DA trailer, without reading the title. I really hope Netflix proves me wrong :)

I'm managing my expectations for this one. The reimagined fantasy themes, lore and mythology have always been my favorite part of the Dragon Age series. While I love the idea of an animated DA and its setting, this trailer feels like it could just as easily be DOTA, Castlevania, or any other fantasy IP that's recently been given the generic animation treatment.

I don't know why I'm feeling cynical about this. Seems like a lot of video games are suddenly getting the Netflix treatment these days, and while some of these are surprisingly good (Castlevania, League of Legends), it really feels like Bioware's just hopping on the bandwagon. With that said, I hope this is good. I love the Dragon Age setting and I think it allows for tons of stories.

@@ida5887 Ngl I felt the "something is missing" from this teaser too. I mean it only showed us action and nothing substantial in terms of plot etc. so it could just be because of that. Honestly feel like the description under the teaser gave us more info than the teaser itself did. But then again teasers are usually like that, super short and don't really give away much at all. Waiting for a proper trailer which will probably show more. I don't think there is anything wrong with hopping on the bandwagon as long as you make the series with love and not just to make profits. That remains to be seen. Besides this series was probably already in development before Arcane released and we saw what a success it was since we already have a release date.

@@KanohiVahi I think the problem with the teaser is that it doesn't show that it's dragon age. If you took out the title and dragon horns you wouldn't be able to tell what world this show is in. The teaser needed some sort of symbolism of dragon age like a grey warden or a demon, something that reinforces that this is in the same world as the games.

Though I think it's more about the vibe - like, it doesn't feel very Dragon Age-y, can't really point out why xD It might be that generic Netflix western anime style though. Looks like Castlevania and Vox Machina, but maybe it's something I can look past if they do the lore some justice. I hope that it wont turn out bland. And yeah, Arcane is brilliant, but it isn't actually produced by Netflix, but by Fortiche under Riot Games directly. Netflix is only a distributor. I wish Bioware could make their own show this way, with unique style and close supervision. There is so much potential for an amazing fantasy series set within the DA franchise, with complex plots and conflicts and distinctive aesthetic. So far this one is looking super generic and netflixy. But again, not all Netflix shows are as bad as people sometimes make them to be, so maybe at least it will be enjoyable to watch as it's own thing ^^

There has already been a Book about Duncan and Loghain, and Solas and Flemeth are primarily game relevant antagonists. Besides that, Solas is already an overarching villain of a couple of side-stories in the books. You're asking for a nostalgia grab, of which I definitely would not appreciate.

@@titanquest15 I know there are the books, that's why I was saying I would love an adaptation of them. These characters are alteady crafted, have a great background, and it's not known to the majority of the fandom, because for the most part they played the games. The best things I watched are adaptations of book/comics material. Easy example: Game of Thrones. While they were getting inspiration from the books it was an awesome series, and when they ran out of them it quickly became shit, just settled in that universe. Let's be honest: BioWare games have cool stories and settings, but the thing they're best at are characters, they're the heart of the games. I would have invested on them. Maybe not the main focus, but having them in for a consistent part. I don't want to be pessimistic, but this story they presented and these new characters don't seem that interesting. Like I said, it's seems a bunch of dudes who will say "Qunari, Lyrium, Red Templars" here and there just so you know it's Dragon Age (Inquisition). I really hope it won't be this, but with 20 ep or something like that...? I'm afraid it will. Best of luck to them and BioWare anyway

Truthfully it doesnt seem too much Dragon Age, but japanese-inspired. (Nothing against japanese series, they are at the top for a reason). Anyway lets hope it shows the Dragon Age elements that are unique about both the fantasy genre and the live action genre, because otherwise it wont make the splash it made back in '09.

I read the 'Tevinter Nights' and it had me hyped! Tevinter Nights, is anthology book of 15 stories that take place after DAI, a sorta tie in book, that gives you glimpse into the state of the world of after DAI. Can't wait to see Tevinter in DA4. Hopefully we see, at least, some of the characters I'm the book and aftermath of some the their stories from that book in the show . It would be awesome to set up some characters we might see in the game in the show like the book does.

They kiiiiiiinda did that will inquisition. The dragon age series has had a lot less dynamic tie in things since DAI though so should be easier.

@@TheFerrett3 There was references to Inquisition in the book, but there couldn't have been references to book in DAI, because the book was released years after the game stopped DLC and other updates. Tevinter Nights is a anthology book of 15 stories that takes place after Inquisition, in mostly Tevinter and a few in Nevarra. The book is supposed to set up some events and characters in DA4.

@@Pha_Kiew . Obviously having a premade Inquisitor would be one of the worst things they could do. First of all, because the Inquisitor is the most boring and bland protagonist in the series. And second, because forcing a premade Inquisitor will ruin the idea people have of their own games, the Inquisitor has a lot of variables in customization. Even Hawke should never have an appearance in this, simply because the animated series would force the idea of Hawke being male or female, warrior rogue or mage.

Loving the fact that we’re getting this in the first place and I know this is all I’m gonna be thinking about for a while but I really do hope that the finished project *feels* like Dragon Age. Thedas as a whole, while being quite the understated dark fantasy setting, has no better place to flaunt its unique flavor than Tevinter. Hoping that they let Thedas be as weird and creepy and wonderful as it is in the games. (Still definitely gonna watch it though.)

That's actually a good shout. Dragonage has some of the best world building and lore outta a lot of stories. So id be interested in watching a dragonage show.

So excited for this! I wonder when it will be set? Before the games or in-between? It’ll be interesting if it takes place before the next game, a sort of run up to the game’s events. Either way, I’m over the moon for more DA content. Also, it was nice to be taken completely by surprise for once thanks to no leaks or rumours. They sure kept this quiet.

Probably before, the same way they did with Inquisition and the Masked Empire and Asunder. They've been showing us the next setting already with the comic books, Tevinter Nights and now (probably) this.

" We are in" . I am thinking this may refer to a break-in or heist situation. Which could connect it to the upcoming Dragon Age game. Which is also set in Tevinter and has some heist elements (according to rumors). All in all, looks very intresting.

God yes, I need new DA content! Really hope to see this tie into DA4. Would be awesome if characters introduced in this show become playable characters in the game. Hell, I’ll settle for NPCs though. And some cameos from the games would be awesome too. Throw my boy Varric in there!

The female qunari was in concept art and posters for DA2 so I think that this show will be either during inquestion or during trespasser and be not only introducing her but the issues within tevinter. That would make sense however I. Very confidant the qunari will be an important member in the next game if not a party member

Interesting that this is set in Tevinter as that's where Dragon Age 4 is supposed to be (if the developers' haven't confirmed this, then the ending of DA:I Trespasser heavily implied it).

Not to be overly pessimistic, but there has been and i think this shows clearly a very deep cleaning up of the Dragon Age universe. The colour pallete gets brighter, the heroes become more righteous and less murky. Honestly it feels as though the Dragon of Origins and 2, is going to be erased all but fully in the coming years. With only the lore and the less gritty elements surviving. I hope I'm proven wrong.

Looks good, I'll probably watch. But there's a problem i have. It seems to be taking way to much from the dragon Prince, yes the game ik ik but the series obviously has some differences. The animation style isnt really a problem, but the magic system, character looks and even the elves themselves seem way to close to the dragon prince. You can clearly see, if you've watched TDP, the scene in this trailer of the black haired wizard casting that spell is very close to Ziard or viren casting dark magic runes, and considering how underrated TDP is, it may lead people to believe its completely original... But yes I will watch it none the less, just thought I should point it out.

Just happened to type in Dragon Age 4 to KZbin looking for any new content, and this came up. Wow. I've been completely on board with an animated Dragon Age series, though I would prefer something playable. But this is the next best thing. Just as long as they get the story and setting right, then this will be good. I was hoping for a series that showed the Warden-Commander of Ferelden on the cure quest, but a new story could work as well.

As cool as it would be, that will not happen. Because that would force the idea of a specific Warden Commander on people Male/female, warrior/rogue/mage, human/elf/dwarf, and the Warden's personality. And it's obvious a lot of people will not feel it's their Warden or identified with them.

Somehow it doesn't "feel" like it belongs to Dragon Age universe. The games had very strong visual language, graphic design, etc, and this looks very far from the style of it. I think that using the strong graphic designs of cards and loading screens of the game would suit this much more. It is possible to simplify those character designs for animation, I don't know why they have decided to go with the generic anime style, when the game has created an amazing one.

I love Dragon Age (especially Origins), but I have a hard time getting into animated stuff like this. Same goes for the animated Witcher movie, it's just not my thing. However, it's still nice to see a lot of people still interested in Dragon Age. Myself, I'm looking forward to a (non-animated) movie or series of Dragon Age, now that would be amazing!

I wouldn't know this was Dragon Age if I watched it without the context, I think. Maybe a D&D show, yes, but Dragon Age...? Hmmm... The only real nod to it is Andraste's head at the base of the spire in the opening shot. That's where it ends, really. The rest looks extremely stylistically generic, even the Qunari looks just like a D&D Tiefling - and made to be cute and palatable. More like Jester from Critical Role than the powerful, intimidating ones with real presence that we previously saw in the world of Dragon Age - like in Tresspasser for example (and yes, not every qunari is the same, we're talking more overall vibe here). I never thought I need a Dragon Age series before I saw this, and I don't feel like I need it after I did watch this. I care very much for their success of the game(s) and this just feels so unnecessary? I refuse to be happy just because we got 'content'. Quality over quantity.

Off the bat, focused on or in the heart of Tevinter Imperium, either the location or era. The serpent ring appearing multiple times just screams Tevinter to me. So there is something to do with that for sure. But I need to study this further.
