Dragon Age: The Veilguard was announced after 10 years, and it looks like an uninspired mess. Perhaps it's time for Bioware to move on from the age of dragons. #Dragonage #gaming #xbox #pc

given the shittery that went on during the development for anthem and andromeda we can assume this: 9 year development time = maybe 6 months actual development went into the game before release

@@Mikoxz The OP stated that the game must have only been in "actual development" for "6 months" which is entirely factually inaccurate. That was the point for what I stated ... it was (at minimum) actually in progress for at least 5 *years*. Your evasion of the point doesn't change any of that. Good try, though. @@virginiamurr3703 You do realise that there is more to a video game than voice lines right? Just because they made some voice lines it does not mean that there has been any actual development. @@teyrncousland7152 So, you're saying that voice acting (and having the written lines for those) (and casting for those roles) is not part of development? Intriguingly ignorant take. I fell in love with a grounded, dark fantasy, old school style RPG. Not some seizure inducing AAA action-RPG slop. Don't get me wrong, it might be a good game for what it is, but that's just a completely different genre and tone of the game, it has nothing that I loved Dragon Age for. The blood magic bit is hilarious. Remember how in Origins you could use an army of golems to fight the Blight who are essentially a slave army? This was a great ethical dillema, on one hand this practice is absolutely disgusting, but on the other Golems are very powerful and can play a key part in stopping the Blight, are you willing to make the compromise and use the golems or put your morality and ethics over stopping the Blight?

As a mage player in all 3 games, I'm pretty disappointed by the 3 active skills, smaller party size, and not being able to switch party member nerfs. It seems we did not learn our lesson from how badly DA2 was dumbed down, so let's take that same idea and make it worse. Inquisition sold well because it struck a balance between the simpler combat system and actually having at least a passable amount of depth more like origins. Also, how did we go from sideboob goths and sexy redheads as romance options to whatever the hell these companions are? In today's gaming landscape you can also bet that other things have been severely downplayed or completely cut- things like blood magic, slavery in Tevinter, the inherent racisms that each race encountered when interacting with other races (probably will not hear the term knife-ear again, that may trigger people). And for the love of all, Varric was not that old in Inquisition, yet now he looks old enough to be Harding's dad a mere decade after Inquisition? Don't even get me going on his beard, something Varric refused to grow because he made his own identity as a surface dwarf and it was a subtle form of rebelling against the common tropes of his race.

Honestly agree with a lot of the things said here. Dragon age origins while it has its issues (a lot of them caused by being tossed around to various locations added by dlc as soon as you get to travel the map to meet all your companions/dlc freebies), still resembled something baldurs gate'esque. Usually played topdown, spells being able to friendly fire, positioning mattering a bunch, etc and its story was dark and gritty throughout. DA:2 felt like a massive step back , reusing the same 4-5 areas throughout the entire game with worse writing and simplistic combat, felt the writing was worse too, especially in regards to meaningful choices to be made. Inquisition is a collect-a-thon but it at least added a little party management back into the game and I'd argue it has some of the most compellling companion writing there is. Veilguard though?... The combat looks generic again with little tactical choice and more 'action focus' akin to 2. The companions dont strike me as that interesting so far and their 'romance anyone' approach takes away from them feeling more like real people with their own preferences in inquisition which I considered a positive thing. I think veilguard's just a mess thrown together considering it was originally meant to be a coop game about spies in Tevinter, then if I recall a live-service title, before ending up as a singleplayer rpg now.

Tbh I never expected this to be dragon age origins level but was hoping for dragon age inquisition level quality at least minus the ridiculous amount of bloat in that game. At its core the writing was still decent for inquisition. Also I’m not all that intrigued by the side cast except for varric, scout Harding and neve. The first two cause they are already established well written characters. Also I think the concept of a medieval mage who is also a detective is at least something new. I like that. The last time we got some sort of detective in this setting was in the witcher 3. I loved the parts of that game where we had to investigate and track different creatures. Geralt was like fantasy batman and I want to see more like that.

That's literally all they had to do was copy Inquisition's homework. The growing pains had already mostly been solved with combat and story. Maybe take a few notes from Witcher 3 for side quests and Baldur's Gate for character development and boom- instant hit.

I keep seeing people say "wait til it comes out before judging it" but you only get one chance to make a first impression and they soiled it. It's also hard to be optimistic when the devs are talking more about the nudity and who you can sleep with rather then how it will play or how different the game will be depending what type of character you are. BioWare are not the same, every one who worked there is gone now and for a decade they've been chasing a specific audience that is not the same fanbase that loved their games in the first place. How many ME Andromeda and anthems do people need to get the message? I know It's hard to move on but a lot of people need to.

@@NomadMonkey396 So basically you’re just set on saying it’s bad when it hasn’t even come out yet? I could understand if you were saying you don’t like the looks of it, but are waiting to reserve judgement. But no, you are kinda just saying that even if it is good, it doesn’t matter because you didn’t like the first impression of it. Guardians of the Galaxy trailer looked bad, but that game was actually really cool. A lot of people were skeptical on BG3 due to its initial gameplay looks, but it is now one of my and many other people’s favorite game. Why can’t you save this criticism for the game when it comes out, and if it turns out to actually be bad?
@NomadMonkey396Ай бұрын
@@aperson3996 I did not say that, my point is BioWare has had 2 flops in a row and the game has been in development since at least 2016 and has been scrapped and restarted twice, maybe more. So forgive me if my faith in the company is more then a little damaged. I wanted to give the the gameplay a chance with the video they released, but it just looks very generic and uninspired. Not to mention the new characters just look pretty awful design wise. They keep shifting and shifting away from the rpg mechanics and it would not be a problem if they just made a new ip.

It's mind-blowing that after the massive success of BG3, BioWare still went and neutered the party-based aspects of DA. I'm afraid DA4 will be like Andromeda, but set in the Dragon Age universe. @@demonking-zm3rs Drastically change their combat systems, sure, I can see that. However, they finally struck a balance with inquisition that wasn't overly complicated and didn't insult the player's intelligence. Their art style was pretty much hard set after 2 though because they wanted it instantly recognizable, so once they performed the necessary iterations on it after origins, the following games were very consistent. As for the trailer being edgy, fuck yeah it was, because that was the source material they chose to base it on (ASoI&F and BG 1&2). In this trailer we see a character having a blast just playing in the fade, after the last 3 games just made it abundantly clear that it's basically a hellscape. This game is going to be just like Anthem, Everyone has this "wait and see" attitude, despite what they see looking like hot garbage. It tried to give that impression but it was a departure from Origins and 2 in every way. But personally I can't wait for people to say "It's fine or it's great" just to see how fans spin it because they don't like that there IP was always sort of Cringe in every Iteration It was a bit cringe with Origins. it was a bit cringe in Da2 and it was a bit cringe with DAI and its a bit cringe now Welcome let's all discuss the Ogren Sebastián and Sera discourse.
