Kind of wild that the studio that brought us the likes of Loghain and the Arishok wrote such generic, bland antagonists for this game. The elven gods were supposed to be incredible beings, powerful enough and intelligent enough to rule over a society comprised entirely of powerful mages. But here they are foolish cartoon antagonists, just chumps with very typical evil villain motivations. Even Corypheus was a far superior antagonist to them.

What in the living fuck did they do to the darkspawn? they look so damn cartoony...
@starsfalldown1234567Ай бұрын
These are new darkspawn directly created via blight. Older ones were birthed by brood mothers which was inefficient. Now Ghilanain can just create them using the blight and mold them to whatever form she wants, she doesn't need to wait for a brood mother to birth a baby and wait for it to grow. That's why they were so successful in ravaging the south, since the blight (which feeds on the magic and environment) can spawn them in almost infinite numbers.
@starsfalldown1234567Ай бұрын
Notice that the new darkspawn don't even have weapons or Armor anymore. Their weapons are all biologically part of them. Like the spear throwing dark spawn and bomb throwing one have the weapons growing out them. That's all improvements made by the Ghilanain. Normal blights need decades or at least a century for darkspawn to mobilise their numbers. Like there's a period where women need to abducted, children raised and Armor and weapons to be forged or stolen to get an army ready. But the new blight didn't need that.

Oh, they really tried to get at least get the whole idea of Solas as the whisper on your shoulder leading you on the journey only to betray you once you're at a suitable measure of growth. It's been done in so many other successful and emotionally engaging stories in games and shows but it's so flat in this depiction. It would have had some decent bones too because of how Solas is essentially an embodiment of Pride, with the implication that it's Rook's pride that was blinding them to realizing Varric's death but no, that's not established confidently because it's literally actually Solas's fault lol. If they had at least made it so Rook was culpable and responsible in equal parts to Solas regarding Varric's death it honestly would have worked and tied well with how they now have a blood connection but it just isn't sold well enough. It's hilarious to me how Baldur's Gate 3 is consistently compared to this story motif considering it has it done in like two different ways with both Raphael and the Emperor as these less-than-savory voices that are goading you into being exploited by them. Veilguard really came up short thanks to all those dev team layoffs (and I'm ngl, some of the dialogue is very AI-feely...)

I was thinking about KOA while watching this, this would have better been served as a sequel to that rather than a Dragon Age game. I understand that it’s been a very long time, but it would have been safer to mess with a semi-dead IP rather than drag Dragon Age down with another entry that could disappoint the fans and kill the IP for good. I haven’t played Veilgaurd myself and possibly my opinions may change when I do, but there was a lot missing from this game and they needed to go do their homework before writing for DA again. The vibes from the first game just aren’t here, and it was the same feeling when I first played 2 and Inquisition. Aside from differing engines and art styles, there’s too much that they leave unspoken to switch protagonists each game and swapping out the team is bad for the same reasons. I understand they they didn’t want to tackle something like battling the Dreadwolf right when we return to Thedas, but truly this story and game needed more time
@RRRRRRRRR33Ай бұрын
@@Monrhoue Amalur only had the edgy visuals (McFarlane worked on this game... or it was Madureira, I don't remember, but a well know comic book artist was involved) and the combat who was considered pretty solid in the early 2010s. This Dragon Age game only draw attention (for better or worse) because they promised the Bioware gimmicks... gather fancy companions to complete a over the top final mission... or the cheap switcheroo, this character was the villain all along! (KOTOR, Jade Empire and so on). If this was a Amalur sequel or a brand new IP, they would have to create something else besides the braindead (but flashy) action combat and they are clearly inept to go that far. I played DA Origins such a long time ago, I honestly don't remember much of the plot or the world itself, even less so Inquisition that almost forced me into a coma, I dropped this game early... the main appeal for most DA players, people who liked Inquisition, they are curious to see what happened to Solas and so on (by the way, Solas fits the "villain all along" trope). Have no reason to actually play Veilguard other than morbid curiosity, to witness the train wreck firsthand (after all, Jack Sparrow makes it free of charge... still, 80gb of SSD space on this thing, well...)

@@Monrhoue Madureira worked on Darksiders, yep. The aesthetics was one of the major selling points for both Amalur and Darksiders. This Dragon Age game really feels weird... if you play a rpg to turn your brain off (like I've seen some reactions, maybe people trying to justify their dumb purchase), kinda feels contradictory, the genre demands decent writing, it can be a simple and nostalgic game like Dragon Quest or a complex crpg like Baldur's Gate, regardless, you are going to play 50 hours or so, braindead combat alone is enough to get you hooked all this time? Have to endure horrendous "zoomer" characters trying to save the world from generic twirling mustache villains... I guess there's a audience for this kind of lowly entertainment out there, just not for me, I'm too old and grumpy for this kind of stuff
@BBS-dl1ltАй бұрын
Yeah all that changes based on difficulty. This person appears to be playing on second easiest based on damage and how long the bosses take. Upping the difficulty raises enemy aggression, shortens dodge and parry windows by a large margin, on some bosses and enemies it changes or randomizes attack pattern, and most things are a one-shot on nightmare mode. Oh and resistances are nearly immunities instead of slight damage reductions. Certain parts are actually hard.

I also laughed at the ending. It's like trump was speaking - The final blight - the worst of blights - was over. Like what trump says ''He's a great guy, good guy, amazing guy'' 😂😂 I feel like my intelligence is being insulted lol.
@TlevidsАй бұрын
Also no way was that the worst of blights: it was over in moments whereas previous ones have ravaged the world for decades.
@FaeQueenCoryАй бұрын
It's not even "goody two shoes"... It's ⚪. The world was betrayed. The world was sundered by Solas. Solas seeks to fix his mistake and undo his betrayal. To return to how things were before 1492.... This narrative is just a massive defense of the decayed status quo regardless of the fact that it's broken and toxic.

My thoughts exactly. When I was watching God of War Ragnarok I was expecting most if not everyone dying.

No. I personally don’t agree but you’re not wrong at all.
@RRRRRRRRR33Ай бұрын
It does look flashy, but you can see the AI patterns are pretty obvious, also the "spongy" design. To a old head like me, the combat in this game looks +- like a improved Kingdoms of Amalur, which is not something good (far from it)
@bessamlightningАй бұрын
You are not wrong my friend. This is epic. I wanna play and make different choices to save all my companions. I know this is a quick playthrough trying to reach the end of game. This is why I see some evil and sad outcomes.
@randomclod385Ай бұрын
why is it so cartoonish?
@BBS-dl1ltАй бұрын
Seems about as cartoonish as origins. I daresay there’s a few more pixels actually.

@BBS-dl1ltАй бұрын
Really? She’s one of the few that actually sounds like a person. Bellara sounds like a low budget anime dub voice actress.
@Edge2177Ай бұрын
They spent the budget on DEI companion quests and the main antagonists suffered for it. Also holy crap its so linear, there's no major decision, no aligning with evil.
@willbaker65322 күн бұрын
Elgarnans easily the best antagonist in the series other than maybe loghain.
@bessamlightningАй бұрын
This game really punishes you for doing the wrong decisions.

I know everyone keeps on hating Veilguard, but they need to remember that not every game is a winner like Baldur’s Gate 3, BioWare lost about half its staff, and at least they can improve for the next game, because there are still people that love the DA franchise even if they don’t like this one
@vasheskaaronsar1568Ай бұрын
"I'm just an employee from BioWare Just simple worker from BioWare Don't put the blame on me" Yeah, we all knew this song so well. Even before Andromeda.
@dreamingawaken6059Ай бұрын
Play stupid game-win stupid prices. This is their 3rd attempt, how many more chance they deserve? The DA would be better off with other studio. I hope Larian can pick it up as they did with BG
@aresrodriguez8800Ай бұрын
@ I don’t work for BioWare. I’m just a nerd that’s a fan of Inquisition.
@MuircetachАй бұрын
There is no DA franchise without its original writing staff. The vision was theirs, and it's gone when they're gone. Now all that's present is someone with rights to the IP name and setting, and butchering it. Exactly like Star Wars.
