@@bizmonkey007 Sure have! I bumped the difficulty down to the second easiest level because enemies felt too spongy and I didn't want to get tired of it. That would be my only complaint. After recently coming off of BG3 (great game!) I appreciate DA being more action focused and a little more lighthearted in storytelling. It's the kind of game I can't stop thinking about when I'm not playing it.

Super same here, got a beefy PC but PS5 on a 4k 70 inch TV with HDR just hits different, could play the PC version on the TV but HDR isn't the same and it doesn't feel as comfy as PS5 directly. Still debating though.

I'm a huge Dragon Age fan & it really breaks my heart to say that I already knew that Dreadwolf/Veilguard was doomed to fail from the start. Bioware isn't really Bioware anymore but a sad miserable husk of what the once-great studio use to be. All of the amazing talent that made Bioware what it once was have all either long since left or were laid off, amongst them DA series creator Mike Laidlaw and DA head writer & lore master David Gaider and top DA writer Mary Kirby who created fan favorite character Verric are all no longer at Bioware. The trailers were so cringe, looking nothing like the Dark Fantasy epic that all the previous DA games were but instead Veilguard looked more like a really bad MCU movie with some frickin' Fortnite added into it. Controversial changes to the DA gameplay formula like no longer being able to control all your party members like you could do in all the previous DA games, only the protagonist this time. Dragon Age is one of my favorite game series of all-time. I love the lore & universe & characters of Dragon Age. Origins is a masterpiece, DA2 wasn't perfect but still a very fun solid game & Inquisition was a fantastic return to form for the series. But seeing it hit rockbottom like this with Veilguard is simply gut-wrenching because again I love this series a ton & now all because of frickin' EA completely sabotaging Bioware, Dragon Age might just be headed for the dreaded EA Vault never to be seen or heard from ever again same as the likes of Ultima, Command & Conquer, Wing Commander and Dungeon Keeper to name a few of the other noteworthy much-missed beloved gaming IPs that EA continues to hold hostage to this very day😞 The only brightspot is the music which is composed by none other than legendary veteran Hollywood film composer Hans Zimmer himself alongside noted fellow composer & protege Lorne Balfe (The Wheel of Time, Assassin's Creed 3, Mission Impossible 6 & 7). The fact that they actually got the great Hans Zimmer to do the game's music is simply mindblowing. I really really hope that the game's full soundtrack is made available to purchase both digital and physically on CD & Vinyl.

Feels like people cant fathom the fact that DA was going towards action every game since origins. This is the culmination of 2 prior action games in the series. Mass Effect was more RPG than any DA after Origins was and I'm fine with that. Not every game need to be BG3, Wasteland or even Origins itself. I love crpgs. Probably my most played genre but Character Action games are my favourites . It's a blend and I'm fine with that.

Each bioware game is worse than the last in the past decade. Im not talking about bugs/performance but in story, characters, toning down "mean dialog" ect. Gameplay was never too bad but now its boring and pointless. From terminator to tinkerbell. I can only imagine how they will take another dump on mass effect. At least we got a good remaster collection minus the really fun me3 online. Hopefully CD projekt red does better with launching their games from now on and doesnt ruin witcher or cyberpunk 2. Seems more like an action adventure lite rpg game. That said, I’d rather have handcrafted stories in smaller maps than big boring open worlds. I also liked Mass effects combat /combos. And I really enjoyed Hogwarts Legacy magic combat so anything that mixes those would be welcomed.

Can I just say sincerely - hats off to you mate. Extremely well balanced review. I think it is so important NOT to be taken over by hype etc. The points made were spot on. Any story based rpg being released now has to compete with output from Larian and CD Project Red. I think that is what strikes me the most. The studio doesn't seem to have evolved it's writing, dialogue or story mechanics since like the 2010-2015 era. Those are huge parts of a game like this. I find that a a real shame. Am still very happy for everyone who tries this and thoroughly enjoys it. So I would agree it's a good game, but not exactly the second coming like a lot of reviews are suggesting.

I think if someone says they really enjoyed it I do believe them, but, if the reason is because the game leans into transgender/non binary commentary etc…I think that’s where I kinda find it odd. This a fantasy game with dragons in it for crying out loud. It is escapism. Do we really need really world politics in it? It’s just a question. Personally I don’t rate a game more highly because it adheres to my personally ideology. But then maybe some people feel games need to be more based on social commentary as it is becoming more impactful and prominent in society? God knows!!

One of the most balanced and concise reviews I've seen of Veilguard. I'll be picking it up. It looks like a grand linear adventure with some incredible stroytelling and that fits my expectations well enough. Not to mention the fun looking combat. It's really sad that people want this to fail so badly because it's representative of different issues. What a sad little world they live in. Like Greg (Kinda Funny Games) said, if you're a bigot, you won't enjoy this game. Anyway, I'll be blasting my way through Thedas now. 🥳

Saying bioware is back is utter bs, and this isn't hate on the game. Bioware games are known for truly great story telling. Veilguard is watered down disney slop, that said combat looks fun and the world looks good. Character creation on the other hand i really dont like, no matter what i do my female characters body looks like a mans frame with boobs its awful

Awesome! I always wanted to play a game where you play millennials and zoomers from upper middle class Cali cosplaying and LARPING as Tumblr fantasy characters. What an original idea. Equipped 100% accurately with all the cadence, vernacular, slang, and accents of "current year" America AND with all the patronizing preachiness as well. Close call to, I almost thought I was going to play one of those "icky problematic" dark fantasies with edge, stoicism, accents and immersion. Whew. So wait, by your words (some of these), low on choices, watered down dialogue, not dark and gritty, different game play than previous entries, very little to do with what is expected of DA, near no impact from 2 decades of previous DA choices, tons of screenshots of woke indoctrination and preaching, even going trans in the game is possible, praising (this is the writing im talking about in the game) surgery scars as sexy, identifying as non binary and thus a... "they?". And yet at the same time with all this its a 8/10, as good as Origins and Bioware is back ? Il say this much for Bioware, who ever picked the reviewers who were going to get the game early ?
