I bought it. Played it. It’s awful. It disrespects you in every way as an experienced dragon age player and really an rpg lover in general. I’m not mad about the obvious trans binary stuff it’s actually very little in the game. You can’t sit there and say this game belongs in the same room as their previous dragon age games, the Witcher, BG3 , Skyrim, Persona, ect. You simply cannot this is the most watered down and useless dialogue I’ve seen in a game. I uninstalled after killing the two dragons. After I saw the little emotion thing again for the game to let me know how someone was feeling as they were telling me how they were feeling I literally said to myself “I’m 34 fkn years” Childish and a joke. This is supposed to be the finale. The end. The culmination of 3 games worth of choices all thrown away … I’m disgusted and if you say you like this game it’s just cuz you didn’t care about dragon age really at all. Or you just have no taste and enjoy the mindlessness railroad you’re on as a player. Could’ve been a game that made me cry instead I’m left bitter… 4/10 terrible writing, bad art design for cosmetics, lack of choice, lack of depth in every sense of the word. The worlds themselves are gorgeous and the layouts are fun. The puzzles: can we call them that? Just don’t have that shit it’s a cheap way to reduce the run through your map not to challenge me. Combat is simple, so bright I can barely see what’s happening and the enemies have no weight or variety to them. Attack the same, super easy to read. I kept having ti adjust the difficulty to not be too hard(take too long not difficulty) and immersion so I don’t feel ridiculous. Never got it right. All the boss fight cut scenes were longer than the fights of 30 seconds or less until the next obvious phase. Another head! Wow you’re wild! Joke of a game

And everything you said is completely understandable, but it is your OPINION, based on your TASTE. That's what people can't understand. The dialogue is VERY cliche at various times, and this can either be very annoying (as it did to you) or it can, like me, be overlooked. Because other parts of the game are very good. The main story is excellent, even with the weak dialogue. I would obviously like to see Origins-level dialogue in this game, especially with this story. We had some great lines from Solas, but that's it. However, the game doesn't deserve all this hate, and a good part of it, certainly more than 90% of it, comes from people with clear prejudices. Again, your comment and point is completely acceptable, as long as you emphasize that this is your taste. The game just isn't for you. But for you to say that it is not Dragon Age, and the game as a whole is clearly superior to DA2 in all aspects, belittles your comment.

@@viniciosmartins1279 na, This isn't a good product, objectivly speaking, some things are not a matter of opnions. let me put this way, you can say u like combat that has too many "flash" effects on screen or you can say u don't like, but you can't deny that it cluster the screen making hard to see other elements, you can say you like the story, or dislike, but you can't argue that is not an chieldish story, full of boring tropes and complete predictable in every aspect of it, you can guess the outcome of the story just by the initial gameplay trailer, and the game doesn't throw a single curve ball at you, ever. You can like/or not the companious (and Rook) but you can't argue that they have any depth, they a superficial characters that strugle to even justify their presence in the story, they go along just for the sake of going along, from the start all it's "We need your help to save the world" and they all jump in the wagon...i could go on with every single aspect of this product and provide actual arguments to why it's not a "good" product without ever saying if i liked or not. (save from the technical aspect, the game does run very smooth.) This is such meh game that i'm honestly starting to think that they put the LGBT stuff there just to be able to wave off the criticism for the game many flaws (put my tin foil hat on)

@@thiagoantunes2856 I really want to address this, because I think it was not clear enough. No, the writting is not bad. I still don't like it, like many people, but it is not bad. Solas is eloquent, Mythal and Morrigan too, so too is Emmrich. They feel like knowledged characters that express ideas with thought. The main narrative and argument between the companions follows the afore mentioned "the real dragon age was the friends we made along the way" everything is cheerful, lighthearted, and even too happy to the point of cringe (and cringe is also a bias, you might feel cringe on something, that someone else doesnt, it's your opinion). It is nothing at all like a Dragon Age. And I don't like it. But it's not bad.
@johndeighan2495Күн бұрын
No. It is bad. What is the point of dialogue? (1) to progress the story / relationship in some way (2) to reveal something about the speaker’s inner state. DA:V sometimes fails to do either. And when it succeeds, it is always done in an extremely ham fisted way. The writers of this game have little to no understanding of subtext. Characters just blurt out plot points, often repeatedly. They just blurt out their inner states, often without any setup. I’ve watched hours of it on stream and it’s mostly substandard. Here and there, it can be decent. But that’s as good as it gets
@rpjames8Күн бұрын
@@johndeighan2495 I've not "watched" hours of content. I played 100 hours, of it. Granted, and I agree. The only one that feels odd sometimes is Rook, often not saying what you want to say, making difficult to bond with a main character that's already stablished as a base, and not giving the player the chance to express his own rook. I don't like that either. But that's the character's voice and narrative. Which was exposed and exemplified on review. As for the writting. I'll exemplify better. And I quote: "I cannot fathom how such a malady would invade this gentle heart [...] It would've taken extraordinary skill to layer the involutions on this artifact (Sighs). What a waste of talent!". -Emmrich. Dragon Age The Veilguard (2024). A small fragment I took from the many in game like that. Still, the overall portrayal remains happy, cheerful, enthusiastic. Granted, I haven't really gotten into Taash's story, so unless the next 40--60 hours (or however long left I have) is just 90% disabled non binary lesbians of colour, the woke coverage has been WAY overblown. Based on the coverage of this game you'd think every ingame cutscene was some leftist propaganda. HOWEVER, I will say the dialogue overall has been either very average, to downright terrible at times. It also doesn't really have any of the meaningful choices of previous bioware titles so far so that's a disappointing. Overall, a somewhat disappointing DA game so far, decent game overall.

@palegod13 сағат бұрын
It's about 80% contained within Taash's "story" ... which isn't really a story, it's just Patrick Weekes the degenerate inserting himself into the game, not just with wokeness but also shitting all over the established Qunari lore. The dialogues are so on the nose with 2020's mental-illness-speak that they're fourth wall breaking. There's an actual lunatic manifesto that they bothered to write out in a codex entry. And unlike previous BioWare games where they would have let you just not recruit a character they know a lot of people will find insufferable (i.e. Zevran) you have no choice here. On top of that, they also locked the game's arena behind doing Taash's quests. Taash is so bad that it's not overblown in the slightest. Another 10% is in the cringy-as-fuck (even for BioWare's "standards") romances, and the rest is just sprinkled around the world.

I don't know... I have 30+ hours in this game and I really like it. The combat is phenomenal, locations are gorgeous, varied and very interesting to explore. Skill trees are very very good. Even the story gets much more interesting before the end of the 1 act. It runs buttery smooth on my older PC and the graphics are very pretty. There's tons of content but it doesn't feel boring like in AC games, for example. Some side quests are okay-ish but some are really good. There are no dumb fetch quests, which I like. I haven't found much of the "aGeNdA" besides the pronouns selection in the character creator. And the puzzles do seem simple, but later they get much more interesting and varied. I feel this is a very solid 8/10 game. Now about the old DA games? Well, to be honest I don't remember much, because the first one came out 15 years ago, it's very hard to compare... And they feel so dated nowadays. Pretty sure most of the crybabies were toddlers back then. So I don't know, drama for the sake of drama. Perhaps it's a GEN-Z thing to cry about everything...

As someone who played every DA game but this one, it feels like the story lost its weight. And that may very well be a reflection of the priorities of who is working on the title currently as opposed to who was at bioware 10+ years ago. I'd also guess that the newer bioware employees don't care as much about the integrity of the previous titles as its not their work and reflective of them and their views. It sucks that I'm not even motivated to complete a story that has existed in my life for about 15 years. At the end of the day, BioWare is a company with employees who cycle in and out. I really like DA VG - am having a lot of fun with it. I think to enjoy this game you have to not get hung up on the fact that it is not dark and gritty like the other DA games. You have to not have preconceptions going in based on what KZbinrs are saying out there just to get more views, where they are hitting the negatives of the game way to hard. You have to not think that every game is supposed to be as deep and compelling as Baldurs Gate 3. You have to like playing a good guy character, and not be hung up on the fact that the game doesn't let you be a "bad guy"..... What Dragon Age Veil Guard is a fun, fast paced, action RPG, with stunning environments, fantastic combat, pretty good story, and bug free. Lets not forget how many games over the past 10 years have released a buggy/laggy mess. DA VG is a technical achievement worthy of praise in modern gaming.
@frankcayseron8637Күн бұрын
what you call achievement worthy of praise should actually be standard or default state of game. this attitude is step backwards. with this logic in few years we will commend games for still allowing us to name our characters. releasing game that is buggy is unnaceptable behavior. that does not mean we need to bend over and praise game ot heavens just cause its not buggy. Although i have to agree with everything you said about game aside the bugs thing. I still dont like they used dragon age legacy to release this game. worst of all, if they just made brand new game and made it into this it would sell better because main hate the game is having is because this is NOT what DRAGON AGE should be. so ironically they tried to use the dragon age fame for better sales but that only ended up backfiring. they went from elven slavery and racism towards dalish to bellara dropping priceless and ancient artifact just to show how stupid and useless she is and from sten and arishock from da2 to taash. its embarasing what they did to dragon age legacy but you are correct, if you take dragon age out of dragon age veilguard and just focus on what it is (basically just forget you playing dragon age game) and its really not bad at all

In all honesty, I've smashed through every dragon age without really using the tactical command functions. I only ever set up what skills my people would use and left them to it. The game itself isn't bad, the dialogue isn't the worst I've seen, the best party member is Bellara by far as she has the most personality, and the combat isn't a completely generic action RPG but it's close. The story isn't as bad as I thought from what people made out, it will be interesting to see how much the strength of allies and who you choose for the options at the end play out. I've learned to accept that studios and games change direction, and I'm okay with that. My biggest issue in this game is that the number of ways to change the world is very limited. It's pretty much 2 playthroughs to experience every major change that can happen. I do like that each faction you choose has separate dialogue in certain situations, and it can change some options in the games.
@jootpepet2 күн бұрын
I'm curious, what game do you think has worse dialogue than this?
@Cosmic-Gecko662 күн бұрын
@jootpepet First of all I will say it's probably opinion, and I can't remember dialogue from all of the games I've played over the years. If I could remember all of the dialogue from games on N64 and original PlayStation onwards it would be a much bigger list as I have played a lot of good and trash games over the years. But more specifically in recent games. 1. I wasn't impressed with either of the Elex games. 2. Forspoken didn't have great dialogue. 3. Mass Effect Andromeda. 4. Saints Row reboot. Just to name a few.
@neonlightcabasag40432 күн бұрын
Andromeda was bad but at least it was in a different galaxy so it wasn't disrespectful to previous entries, the story was just a bland coming-of-age copy-paste of Shephard's. Veilguard however, connects to DA:Inquisition which is reeling from the aftermath of so many major events, such as the mage/templar war, the death of the chantry divine, the attempted assassination and installment of the new Orleian royalty, and the appointment of a new divine, plus a looming threat of the qunari invading due to the breach, the reorganization of the grey wardens, etc... none of that connects to this game. Veilguard disregards and diminishes so many lore-critical events while making Solas, an undying immortal who imprisoned the old elven Gods, and the guy who could control the anchor by just glowing his eyes, look like a total pushover who is btw absent most of the game. Not to mention the real-world crap they sprinkle in to make sure whoever plays knows what nonbinary is and how people should behave towards them, which by the way is a concept and terminology that does not fit in a medieval dark fantasy setting. All previous ME and DA games had lgbt elements and characters but those worked because they felt natural, just in the background like how you would not think about straight people but here, why was put so much emphasis on it, with the term too, I didn't care Iron bull or sera was lgbt but here I have to sit through this real-world issue when the veil is about to be torn down and the current world ending? Nah bro This is much much worse in the story dept. than ME:A and Andromeda had very fun gameplay too, which this game's mechanics are probably based on. I'm glad you can enjoy it without thinking about the story misalignment and disrespect but for me, without the story, I can't really get behind the game, it becomes just another mindless build slog and just click till the next bullet sponge dies, might as well clear again BWM or Ghost of Tsushima, at least those have original uncompromised stories still. Subpar writers butchered the story and so therefore killed the franchise.

@neonlightcabasag4043 I agree that the forced interaction around what non-binary is and how they should be treated isn't necessary for the game at all. However, a lot of the conversations in this are so short that it doesn't phase me in the slightest. In terms of the connection between Veilguard and Inquisition, it's a very tenuous connection at best. The fact Solas is doing the ritual in the north, a few characters, some missives about the south, and the fact the Inquisitor gets very slightly involved at the end. Why they even bothered to include the choice to set up how things went in DA Inquisition is beyond me. Mass Effect is a different galaxy, Veilguard is the north of Thedas. As much as you can forgive Mass Effect I can forgive Veilguard. It's not the ending I wanted after putting up with the hours of used time in Inquisition waiting for war table tasks. The fact the Inquisitor never even gets to finish the job annoys me more than anything about the actual game. The north and south of Thedas aren't connected in any other ways though, you could just as easily go back to the south. What are they going to do in the next Mass Effect? If you finished 3 by wiping out the reapers who is the next enemy? You can't be Shepherd anymore due to the cost of wiping out the reapers. I made the geth allies in the end so where does it go? As much as it annoys me stories have to end, and they didn't go about it the right way but that won't change now. I've finished the story involving any old characters, if they make another game which the ending implies they will, then they may as well start again with all new characters and a brand new story. Also differences of opinion but I personally thought that Andromeda gameplay sucked compared to any previous ME game. This isn't the DA game I wanted, it's not the finish to the story I wanted, but I wanted to finish the story. Hopefully, if they make another one they will make adjustments but I'm not relying on that because EA are involved. I've seen enough with FIFA and EAFC to know that EA doesn't give a damn, if I could force them to sell the studios or IP I would. They won't though, they will just close the studio and keep the IP never to be seen again. I'm only forgiving to a degree because I want the Dragon Age universe to keep going, mess up with the game again and I'm gone it's that simple with me. As a last point, unfortunately the toxic society we live in is what causes this sort of issue. Everyone attacks each other over identity, or lawsuits are brought because a group isn't included, and it's nuts to me that everybody wants to be right. As a society, we have tied ourselves in knots trying to find answers that don't exist. There will always be division and subjective opinions, there will always be conflicts between us as people because we are all different and we all have ideas about how things should be. Realistically nobody gives a damn about my opinion, they just want to voice theirs in support or opposition. Creating anything for public consumption is a fine line between one side and the other, and as easily as something can take off it can be cancelled. The video game world is included in that, works of fiction where anything should be the reality of the world created is tainted because society can't leave anything alone. Everything is a win for one side or the other and it's a sad reality to live in.

Finished the game last night. As a Dragon Age fan since day one with Origins, I absolutely loved it. I'd dare to say it's as good, if not better, in some ways than Origins. It could be better, but it's not nearly as bad as a lot of the internet would have you believe right now. I'm old enough to remember that every Dragon Age game (including Origins) had detractors when initially released. I believe history will be kind to this game in the long run.

Man, there's clearly talent involved in making this game. It feels like it just suffered with bad direction and design. The very first tag in Steam is not “RPG” “Adventure” or “action” it’s “LGBTQ” which means they’re pandering so hardcore to that demographic that you know even Bioware knows it’s a shit game.

@S3-F32 күн бұрын
This generation isn't that 'woke'. It's only small but loud and very aggressive minority. This generation is just afraid to speak up, because everyone's tricked into thinking they are in the minority. It's like when some thugs on a bus are picking on someone, and everyone else just looks down and keeps quiet. Not because they don't care, but because they don't trust that the others would back them if they spoke up

It’s moreso that out of touch devs and executives cannot weave such topics into their games naturally, they make it the most clumsy, lecturing implementation possible.
