The debate is for whether potara fusion is better because its use the tools of god, and how the fuck a random alien ritual dance can match it. Of course the strength of the fusion is corelated with the strength of goku and Vegeta at the time, which mean Vegito that fight buu will be weaker than Gogeta that fight broly. The theory that i believe is that potara fusion is a multiplication of strength (A x B) and Gogeta is a sum of strength (A + B). Also both fusion gives them power boost but i dont know how much.

So all things considered, think we can all agree that even though they're short lived for a reason, Fusions are fun to watch and great. and that if all things were even and we had two identical versions of Goku and Vegeta fusing with one another and they both fought without a bower boost limitation that makes them defuse faster if they used too much power and they were both set to 30 minutes tops so that everything was equal in terms of the time limit too. Interms of raw power Vegito would probably come out on top, since (like everyone wont stop saying ,true or not) there is a boost that is higher than the fusion dance because I believe that the Potara act as a catalyst for both Goku and Vegeta to stay "stuck together" meaning the literal glue to hold both bodies together is the potara with mystical magical goodness. Which would then lead me to believe that because the potara makes the bodies not strain themselves to keep their powers exactly equal they can multiply their max power output more easily and thus win the fight in sheer raw power. However, the other side of that makes me believe that with that being said, Gogeta is a lot more crafty and inventive. Gogeta being born from the fusion dance would naturally be weaker since both bodies have to stay in perfect equilibrium for the fusion to work and to stay together. This would cause strain to the body and would make the catalyst for the fusion be a constant strain on the body until the body couldn't keep both people together and they inevitably defuse. This would be why Gogeta would hypothetically get less of a power boost than Vegito and what leads Vegito to be more cocky and chatty during battles, while Gogeta is usually all business when he starts and ACTUALLY FINISHES his fights. With this Gogeta could hypothetically win if he is able to outsmart Vegito in some capacity. But with all that being said, since both of them would basically be exact carbon copies of the people that make the fusions, they would eventually realize eachother's strengths and potential weaknesses and try to end things at the exact same time and end up in a draw some how, even if Gogeta is weaker but more of a end things right here right now kind of guy , while Vegito is an overconfidant blowhard but even stronger than Gogeta, things would end up in such a way that they both defuse at the same time and weren't able to finish each other off in time.

Fusion dance has never been stated to be equal to a potara fusion. Vegito has more power albeit slight, he has double the time limit ( don't be that guy to bring up the Vegito defuse, that was only due to poor energy handling that would also defuse gogeta), Vegito's ultimate attack final Kamehameha can be deduced to be stronger than big bang Kamehameha since final flash is more powerful than big bang attack. The newer Broly movie also seems to have skewed a lot of people's opinion as well but what some people seem to forget is that Gogeta blue's appearance happened much later the Vegito blue and not only that but it was after the TOP which propelled both Vegeta and Goku massively in power meaning a Vegito appearance post TOP would also be many times more powerful than during the Zamasu fight. Finally, the only scaling that happens with fusions is based on the two individuals fusing base power so where do you get that Gogeta has better scaling, they both have the same scaling except Gogeta has to take a power hit that Vegito doesn't so Vegito scaling is higher if you wanna walk that road at all.
