Choosing to fight in the same outfit as his father, the power he attained under the Kai's training, the confidence he showed, and the embrace from Goku expressing his pride. This really was a Son becomes the Father, Father becomes the Son moment. Or at least should've been, if the story didn't lose track. The Buu Saga was all about Vegeta. But it should've ended with Gohan and Vegeta defeating Buu together. This would've given an incredible arc for both Gohan and Vegeta, where Gohan feels more confident and ready to assume his fathers' legacy, and Vegeta has redemption for all his mistakes as well as finding the inner peace to accept himself which pushes him to reach SSJ3.

The buu arc is the _DEFINITION_ of wasted potential. Fusions, Potara earrings, SSJ 3, the Z sword, Possession, all of it thrown away just for Goku to chuck a spirit bomb at Boo! So many new ideas that could’ve taken the story so far, but it was all scrapped by the end of it

I love this version of his anger theme. Really suits his mystic form perfectly. Like Piccolo said in his own thoughts while watching Gohan beat up Super BUU, “(Amazing. He’s not even a Super Saiyan and he’s ripping BUU apart. A power increase of this magnitude. It’s-It’s inconceivable.) Showing that he is surprised that Gohan was able to improve this much over the years. I think Piccolo must have a genuine bond (friendship) with Gohan or something. (count Goku if you will) and even Goten and Trunks were surprised. Goten, because he saw that his big brother was now stronger than ever, and Trunks (kid), because he did not know that Gohan had all of this power within him since the Cell games and BOJACK Movie.

I think Tori could have had a really solid arc with Gohan where he is dedicated to learning more about ki control and continuing to train would help him learn, so that he could balance school and training. DBZ is a fighting shonen and that would give more depth to how ki works and apply it to Gohan's character arc, keeping everything about the show's fundamentals the same while tying back into the more martial arts focused elements of OG Dragon Ball and giving Gohan a reason to be the main character.

Gohan’s potential is frightening. He hasn’t trained since he was little and after the old man unlock his dormant potential he is already about as strong as Goku. Goku train really hard and he’s a fighting genius but Gohan just instantly obtained this power, imagine if he was like Goku. If he was the hero there wouldn’t be a struggle.

i know they're the same theme basically... but you can tell that his SSJ2 one fits more without synths because he was a child with emotions who was scared of his own power and had to man up at the spot... and with this version he's grown up and is willing to not hold back anymore.. however he is Goku's kid and has Gokus habit of letting his guard down (spoiler) (IYKYK) the Bruce Faulconer score will forever be the best DBZ in my eyes.. these themes made it so easy to memorize the exact time and place of each arc/saga

The fact Toriyama didn't want to give Gohan the dub when everyone and their mother knows he was already burnt out from the story staggers the mind. I remember a fan theory/rumor that it was because Gohan wasn't popular with the fans he got the dirty treatment. To know it was done by Toriyama's own tired hands will always be a stain on the series that it has never quite recovered from. You made Gohan go through all that adversity had him sit on his ass for a whole arc just to lose. It's understandable why most set the ending for Dragon ball Z at the Cell Saga. Everything that came after was a tripe.

In the scope of Dragonball itself, we had only seen Goku as an adult for a fraction of Dragonballs run by the time of Gohan's introduction. So if children reading were relating to a Kid it was Goku. Gohan isn't even a blank slate think about his Character. Gohan is a timid character because Toriyama wanted to continue writing a story of a boy on an adventure but to make sure it was still exciting he took Goku out of it, further still he made Gohan the inverse of Goku's character. Goku is brave, nitwit, with no manners, Gohan is cowardly, smart and mannerly. It would have been redundant otherwise if Gohan was a carbon copy of Goku. This is why Goku is normally not around, because if he was he'd just save the day. While ultimately still showing that big things can come from the smallest of characters, which is something Toriyama has done all the time. Even to this day with Zenos which is like a jelly bean man with the mind of a child. So Toriyama does not do these things to create a relatable character for kids. The only reason people attach Gohan as a projection character for children is because that's how it made them feel. By that same token are kids projecting themselves onto Goten and Trunks? Maybe they are. Who's to say? I mean anybody can project themselves to any character they wish. If you're timid maybe you related to Gohan but that wasn't the purpose. That's more projecting your own projections onto the character than the other way around. All that being said Gohan's coming of age story being stunted was two fold the whims/pressures of the editors and also because Toriyama wrote by the seat of his pants. TL;DR don't take this as an offense to you it's just I disagree. So hopefully you aren't insulted or anything, Have a nice day.

Gohan is simply not main character material. Toriyama was tired, but he still had his wits about him enough to see that. If the writing suffered because of his tiredness, he would’ve made gohan the main character and called it a day. But he didn’t do that. You’re gonna have to swallow it instead of blaming Toriyama for every inconvenience.
