It's possible to like both soundtracks. I enjoyed both the Japanese and American tracks very much. Some tracks are better suited for certain scenes. Faulconer's Frieza theme is excellent and what made Frieza intimidating and scary. Like when he and King Cold landed on Earth. His theme fitted so well in that scene.

The Cell power up scene brought a very contrasting feel to this track that is the opposite of what was intended. It's supposed to invoke feelings of hope and that everything will be ok, but with the Cell power up it just conveyed acceptance of the fact that there is no hope.

That scene is exactly what made me love this soundtrack. I don’t know if we are reading too deep into it, but regardless, DBZ doesn’t do it like that anymore. I’d watch that scene on repeat. Cell screaming at the top of his lungs, the whole planet shaking, the Z fighters just standing still… gets me everytime.

It's because of synthesizer's sound I guess. Kikuchi used a very large variety of instruments, and if rattle doesn't sound dated, synthesizers definitely feels 80s.
