Since, to this very day, there are several people who still don't know how Guard Canceling works or that it even does exist, and many of them ask frequently for clarifications about it under my videos, I've decided to make a quick & basic Cancel tutorial.
I tried to be as simple as possible, making visual examples and highlighting every detail, so that even the newcomers of this game can still follow me and understand my explainations.
Even if this was very quick and basic, I still had to go through a lot of writing, recording and editing. Like really a lot. lol I'm sorry I had to left several frames black/empty, but I couldn't find something to add behind and my editing timeline was already crowded as it was.

As técnicas mais avançadas serão explicadas em breve. Cancelar com a defesa: como isso funciona? Vamos começar dizendo que existem ataques "normais" no jogo... ...e temos ataques carregáveis. Eu acho que eles são bem diferentes. Você pode confirmar se um ataque é carregado olhando para a parte do personagem que está se iluminando. Todo ataque que pode ser carregado, consequentemente pode ser cancelado, apertando o botão de defesa durante a animação do golpe carregando. Secondo, puoi solo inclinare in basso la levetta analogica destra, che vale come il tast X (le altre direzioni pure valgono per gli altri tasti frontali). Ma anche quello è scomodo. Terzo, puoi usare un'altra scorciatoria di tasti uniti per cancellare quelli che stai premendo. Per esempio, se hai la scorciatoia "[]+X" (Presa) mappata sul tuo tasto R2, premerlo mentre stai caricando KKKK cancellerà l'attacco e lascia i tuoi pollici liberi di inserire un'altra stringa. Questo funziona anche per i cancel del tasto O (Cerchio), ma non per [] ovviamente. Per quelli, dovrai usare un'altra scorciatoia tipo "K+G", magari mappata su L1. I change my controls in the game I put guard as R1 it's much faster IMO. What I need to get good at is back-stepping to space attacks, as well as add basic ki blast to combo extend as well. What others might not know, is the same attack will put them in a juggling state.

I have a question. I'm trying to do some of these in practice, but sometimes the enemy just gets knocked up into the air. What causes that? I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. For example in your Goku combo at 4:00 I do the fP K K, cancel, Kaio Ken, and then when I dash forward and start the Kick combo, sometimes he just starts being juggled instead of staying on the ground. Why is that?

Good question! I'm glad to know you're practicing. :) See, when you break the guard or use a transformation at point blank, the opponent goes into a "stunned" state that has a particular property: if you hit him too soon, he will start being juggled instead of continuing the ground combo. It all comes down to timing: you have to hit the opponent not too soon (or he will start juggling), nor too late (or he will just block). Keep practicing until you find out the "golden" time window when to attack. :) As you can see in my video, I don't start attacking Vegeta as soon as I reach him, but I wait an instant before doing so.

Hi thank you for this tutorial I'm currently training on Budokai 3 USA version for pcsx2. How do I know if I'm playing with a framerate of 60 ? I find it really hard to connect per say PPP->P into KKKK

If you're playing a US copy of B3, you're already playing at 60fps. If you experience frame drops, check your settings. You can tell the game is running at its native speed by going into the Options and enabling the corner HUD to see your current frame rate. You can find instructions on how to do this on PCSX2 Wiki & Forum. Goku's "ppp→P" into "kkkK" is really hard, if you're new to cancels you should try something simpler, like "→pkK" or "→kkP" into "kkkK" instead. :)

@Dr._Doppietta I finally figured it out, the game does a bad job of explaining because it doesn't say to use a super attack it just says pursue after launching opponent, but yeah no joke it's bad. Game in general isn't that great and I wish we could get a Infinite World Remaster.

I wrote that you have to press X while the move is charging. It's clearly shown at 1:41, I even shown the exact moment when I press X on screen. You can clearly see the X button on the upper half of the screen.

Back when budokai 2 was new, I knew of this sort of thing. Back then, I also heard about remapping guard to L1 or R1. It's interesting to me how this is still both a game practiced, and a game that people need modern tutorials for, both. If I ever get around to streaming anything budokai related, it will be the first game's story mode, and I'll actually bother to learn some of these applications instead of simply calling them neat. Thanks for keeping the passion alive for the budokai series, it's a nice nostalgic trip for me, and a little infectious, too.

B3 is a very underrated & slept on fighting game.

Great tutorial! NOW AS A PSA, for anyone about to ask or already asking “does this work in Infinite World/ Shin Budokai 2/ Burst Limit?” Yes it does, this same principle applies to all of those games but it might be slightly different. For instance Shin Budokai and Burst Limit map their strings differently than B3 and IW, as they have a dedicated button to charged buttons and you can also cancel ki blast charges, but you’ll find the same type of strings that Dopp used here.

I remember learning this trick 10 years ago after watching an infinite world tutorial by somebody by the name of "UnderLordTico". Idk if u heard of him but he did budokai 3/ infinite world videos and even online matches. Cancelación de guardia: ¿cómo funciona? Comencemos diciendo que hay ataques "normales" ... ... y luego están los ataques cargados. Creo que son bastante diferentes. Puedes ver que un ataque está cargado mirando la parte del personaje que brilla intensamente. Cada ataque que se puede cargar, también se puede cancelar presionando el botón "Guardia" durante la animación de carga. Cada ataque de animación de carga que se cancela presionando el botón X durante la animación de carga toma el nombre de "Cancelación de guardia" o, en resumen, "Cancelar". Recuerde que diferentes cadenas de cancelación tienen diferentes tiempos de cancelación y reparten diferentes tiempos de aturdimiento. ppp> PX es corto

Canceling's principle is exactly the same in SB2, plus you have Ki-Blast Canceling too there. A ReverseBackDash is an advanced technique, I'll explain it later in my videos.
