Here's a big one! One of my top 5 favorite tracks from "Dragon Ball Z" and the very first track you hear in the original Broadcast version of the show. "Ginyu Assault" (Episode 68) was the very first episode that switched over to the Faulconer Productions music and the new voice actors after the Ocean Dub. For those who don't know, the episode 68 that you find nowadays ever since the Remastered DVDs came out is not the original english version of the episode. The original version starts out with Burter and Jeice trying to assault Goku (to this track). The Remastered version starts off where Goku disappears and re-appears behind Burter (right in the middle of "Closing Music"). Because the Ocean Dub had edited a lot of scenes out, the original version of "Ginyu Assault" used scenes from the episode before (I know, it's complicated). Because the Remastered version (and everything after) uses the full uncut versions of the episodes, "Ginyu Assault" would no longer be the way it was on Cartoon Network or the original Single DVDs. Unfortunately , the original broadcast version is a far better experience because you have all of the missing tracks: "Ginyu Force Theme", "Frieza's Immortality Speech" (at least that's what I like to call it), "Dende Worries", "Goku Vs. Jeice & Burter", "Bulma On Namek", "Bulma and the Frog", and the first half of my absolute favorite track "Closing Music". So just in case anyone new ever wonders where this track came from, there you go.
Anyway, Mike Smith created the original track and as usual, his version is perfect! I'll link the original version of the track for anyone who hasn't heard it. This is one of those tracks I can never forget because it wasn't just some track; it was an entire experience. I wasn't there for the switchover from the Ocean Dub to the new FUNimation Dub but I've heard stories from some who were about how amazing the switch was. I started watching on TV in the Majin Buu Saga (waaayyy past the debut of this new music) in September 2002 (However, my actual first episode was "Next Up, Goku"). Although I'm fully nostalgic for that part of the story, nothing touches the span of story from "Ginyu Assault" (Episode 68) to "Goku's Alive" (Episode 107)! Perfectly written in every way from music to script to voices.
So if you tuned in to "Dragon Ball Z" on the day "Ginyu Assault" aired in 1999, you were blasted with this otherworldly awesome new track! Burter and Jeice were having a rough time trying to land a hit on Goku and all to this music! This music is the beginning of Faulconer Productions so a serious, heartfelt thank you to Mike Smith for his incredible idea and implementation of this AMAZING track! Speaking of implementation, this track is used an absurd amount of times in the show and Mike created several variations to it. Some of them just have different sounds added in, some are mixed differently, and some are pretty much their own tracks entirely.
This track was one of the very first ones I wanted to do a re-make for. It probably would have been first if the original idea wasn't so ambitious. My original idea for the re-make was to combine every version into one long track that would have been approximately 10 minutes long and I was coming up with ways it could all work but I decided against it (very recently) and to make the version you hear here and save other versions for other re-makes. So don't be sad if your favorite version didn't make it into this one. I'm not done with the "Ginyu Force Theme" yet. I also plan on giving some of my already made re-makes other chances to shine in new tracks.
Now with this all said, this is probably my longest description and it's perfectly ok if you skip it. I just like to write haha. Anyway, I hope you enjoy!
